For some modes of transport you are possibly correct but I have never been onboard an internal flight or train ride where I didn't pay first

Culture doesn't apply to corporations. I'm talking about small local operations.

Eg Pattaya baht buses get paid on completion of journey, Songtheaw from Lamphun to Chiang Mai gets paid at end of journey. Even taxis get paid on completion of trip. Ever been in a restaurant where you pay before eating ( I do not call fast food places restaurants )?

  • The above statement is absolutely correct, this would take any kind of misunderstanding away plus the boat owners or captains would have no reason to demand any additional payment

  • I've taken boat tours from several locations including Samui and always paid before boarding boat.

BS....

Passengers should pay to get in the boat before it departs... not extorted half-way.

It's only BS if they demanded more than the agreed price. Having seen some of the motley collection of youths on the islands I have no problem believing that some do a runner.

Of course the obvious solution is to require payment before departure, like the ferries do. We ain't talking about Mensa candidates driving a longtail.
