I totally agree with this, however I think some of the posts are more about being skeptical how the incident will be dealt with by the authorities rather than being hateful.  It is a terrible thing when anyone dies especially that far away from home and their relatives have to deal with the loss.

I strongly agree. Thank you. I lost a family member years ago in Asia. (Not in connection with bar going). I know what loss means.

Even there was a travel insurance which paid the personal grievance knocks you down.

In 25 years of traveling to and working in Asia, I have filed about half a dozen claims under travel insurance.  So far, they're at 100% in denying the claims for something down in the fine print.  Usually on about the 43rd page.  So I'm not a big believer in travel insurance.  Even so, I usually tick that box, hoping that someday I'll be proven wrong.  I don't hold out much hope of that, especially if the claim is a whopper.

I guess you've never sent flowers to a funeral home, or brought a covered dish to a memorial service.  It's a way to share the grief and show some humanity and compassion and support for the family.  If interweb fundraisers were available back then, I'd have donated cash in addition.  It's a lot more useful, and generally less expensive than sending flowers.  If you don't want to donate, fine.  But don't demean those of us who do.

A lot of assumptions and insinuations. All wrong.

“The Thai authorities have said it was drowning"

What do they base that conclusion on?

Maybeeeee after his naked body was discovered floating in the sea near Patong Beach?

Absolutely not.  I had receipts for the costs incurred and evidence of why I incurred those costs.  Never within my control.

For a great expose, look up the CBC YouTube named Travel Insurance  Are you actually covered (CBC Marketplace)

I'd link it, except YouTube is blocked here and none of my links are showing up as hyperlinks anyway.

Summarizing the gist, you need both a doctor and a lawyer to figure out what's down in the fine print.  A doctor to understand the medical terms and a lawyer to understand the legal terms.

That is saying all.

Being drunk and have a heated conversation with another (Thai) man. Stupid

Doesn't say he was drunk nor is the other man identified as Thai.

I'm not speculating about what happened, but just as a general remark, I lived in Phuket back in the day and it can be a dodgy place with no shortage of shady farangs.

Last time I was there, quite a few years ago, my brother and I were playing pool and some smiling young Ozzie came up to us offering to give us his weed as "he was leaving the next day". Immediate red flags came up (this was long before legalisation) and I smiled back saying "no thanks, we don't smoke". He turned around and left and gone was the friendly smile.

Here they do not need a base to draw a conclusion. The conclusion is based on, is it any money in it for me and the amount of work included as well as the always no to overtime factor. 🙂

No indication he was drunk

As for the other man being Thai:

"CCTV footage reveals Kelly in an intense discussion with a man who appeared to be a fellow tourist"

I would advice you to read my posts always carefully.

I didn't write a Thai man was involved

Yes, you did.  I would advise you to read your own posts "always carefully" [sic]...

"Being drunk and have a heated conversation with another (Thai) man".

Its looking very suspicious - obviously they 'have' to find this other man...

I'm surprised they have not released a CCTV image of him already (as a person of interest).

If he is involved, I suspect its likely he has fled already.

Could have just been two guys discussing about who was the physically fittest and they agreed to have race to the beach , swim to a buoy and get back again and see who could do it the quickest ?

Could have just been a race

  Did anything interesting  happen ?

I have no doubt something "interesting" would have happened if I had befriended this character, this is the point I am making.

Could have been... could have been a deeply interesting discussion, in a very animated fashion that appears as though they were having an argument...

Either way - the 'other guy' remains the most important person to get hold of and find out what happened, and if they can't find him - he's fled and likely fled for a reason.

As I mentioned - I'm surprised CCTV photo has not yet been circulated 'as a person of interest'.

He could be aware that his "mate" died , he may have also died or he may want to keep quiet because some people will think he was responsible for the death ?

had arrived in Thailand on 30 December for a month-long backpacking trip.

Backpacking?

In downtown Patong?

When I was backpacking I stayed in small towns with mountains, not huge cities like Phuket, where they charge 150B for "street food".

Seems unnecessarily expensive and stupid.

Apparently he met his demise at the hotel.

Did you read the story?

Why was he being chased?

Strong likelihood that he was assaulted.

possibly assaulted and was he held under water until drowning occurred

A fundraising campaign has been launched to cover the costs of repatriating Regan’s body and arranging his funeral. For now, the family remain in Thailand, searching for the truth and working to bring Regan home.

I just skipped to the last paragraph to look for the anticipated GoFundMe request. No need to read the rest of the story.

What a comment to say when a British tourist dies in appallingly tragic circumstances and his family and friends are deeply grief stricken. May I say Brits both in Thailand & back here in UK express our deep sympathies for Regan's loss.

That was applauding ?   Glad I rolled back my first thoughts, if you thought that was appalling.

Did you express your same thoughts to the others, that stated basically the same, or am I special ? :coffee1:
