Based on the information in the Op, I too suspect foul play as I'm sure many would given the same information - but as Nick Carter pointed out, there are other possibilities regardless of their plausibility.

How do you treat a dead relative overseas ?   Is it necessary to fly over and be with them ?  Not like you'll be spending a lot of time together.  Simply let the embassy, that has experience doing, sort out what needs to be done, and ship them back.

 

Simply a waste of time & money. coming here, especially if not having.  But hey, just ask other people to pay for it, when it's pretty obvious, to me anyway, the family isn't skint.  

 

Can't be cheap, just to hop a plane, short notice, full fare, along with at least 1 week hotel stay, on one of most expensive islands, during peak high season.  And why 2 people, as simply 1 person can handle it.  Because they can afford it.   Then ask for money ...

Makes mention that the lad was cheerful and always smiling, well respected at his work. Also does not reconcile with his visage in the photo in the OP.

 

Does not sound like depression to me.

It is a bit more complicated, yes when you can swim you are less likely to drown, but it could also be that the pursuer pushed the man underwater, for that reason that could be a hint.

Without being disrespectful, and aware of the vagaries of reporting , I am struggling with why he was reported missing so quickly after the footage. 28 and "mature" doesn't normally require reporting in every 24 hrs, unless there's a known potential safety issue.
