A crash occurred on 15 January, involving a tanker carrying 16,000 litres of diesel and a 22-wheel trailer truck on the Saohai Bypass flyover in Saraburi. The crash resulted in a significant diesel spill on the road and surrounding areas, prompting emergency response teams to act swiftly.

Pol. Capt. Sompong Pomkaset of Saraburi Police Station received a report of the incident from the 191 emergency hotline. He immediately dispatched officers, along with rescue teams from the Sawang Rattanatruay Foundation, firefighters from Saraburi Municipality, and the Saraburi Highway Department, under the direction of District Chief Atthakarn Jitthawin.

At the scene, a severely damaged Isuzu tanker (registration from Saraburi) was found with diesel spilling onto the bridge and the road below. The driver, identified as Mr. Yothin sustained injuries and was rushed to Saraburi Hospital by rescue workers.

Approximately 10 metres away, the 22-wheel trailer truck (registration from Saraburi) was found with its rear heavily damaged, blocking the bridge. The truck’s driver, Mr. Sarawut Sridet, 47, was unharmed. Firefighters quickly disconnected the electrical systems of both vehicles.

The Saraburi Highway Department used sand to cover the diesel spill to reduce the risk of vehicles skidding and causing further incidents.

Police have begun an investigation into the incident and have taken the trailer truck driver in for questioning. Preliminary reports suggest that the tanker may have failed to notice the stopped trailer truck as it ascended the incline, leading to the collision.

The manager of the tanker company, who remains unnamed, stated that the diesel was being transported from the Pokpaek oil depot to a Bangchak petrol station in Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Saraburi.

Mr. Sarawut, the trailer truck driver, explained that his truck had appeared to stall, prompting his assistant to exit the vehicle to check the tyres. Moments later, the collision occurred.
