chingching Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I'm interested in a colonoscopy exam. Chon Buri preferred but open to all suggestions.
Jerzy Swirski Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I have had two colonoscopies. Got them both done at one of the RAM hospitals. Cost was about 25,000 baht each. The op is no problem but the bowel prep is not pleasant 1 1
udontomi Posted January 23 Posted January 23 If you're referring to the AWFUL stuff I had to drink the night before, I couldn't agree MORE!!!
Pdavies99 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 In the UK you are given a mild sedative and a small amount of valium 20 minutes before. You know nothing and experience no pain etc

I just stood in the shower with the taps full on. So don't venture more than 6 ft from the bathroom once you've drunk it. Afterwards, in the op room, out like a light, and wake up when all is done. No after effects. They film the whole procedure and give you a CD to ensure no hanky panky. Just don't let your mates get their hands on it! You'll never live it down after nightly showings at your local 🤣🤣😳😳r some bright spark uploads it to his OnlyFans account. 1 3 1 1

The next day I changed my mind anyway, so was a waste of time. Pattaya/ Bangkok hospital charge 30,000 baht for camera at both ends. 1
NicoBKK Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy, both at Bumrungrad, 34k in 2022
Expat68 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Year and half ago I had one done at Loei General, under 10,000. Many people do not realise that it is the same doctor in private hospital has general 2
Tazmo Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I had one done at the Sriphat Hospital in Chiang Mai. It was 25K THB, but it was a package, which includes conscious sedation ( you feel nothing); fees for Surgeon; Nursing; Admin. and if polyps ( growths) are seen during the procedure they will be removed. I had 2 removed. Procedure can take up to or less than an hour. You are likely to pass bloody motions later, once only, usually. But may have an Irritable bowel after, depending on several factors. I am sensitive to spicy food; some diary products and beer! I paid separately for a Consultation visit and the bowel preparation meds( which by the way was comfortable for me ). It’s essential that your bowels which are very long is entirely clean, some foods eg meat, can remain in the bowel for several days. This can block the sighting of the surgeon and procedure has to be repeated. I also had to pay separately for a follow up appointment and the results of the pathology specimen. A sample is taken during the procedure and tested for cancer. Mine was negative thankfully! But it was value for money. I have been a Head Nurse for an Endoscopy and Day Surgery Unit so my judgment is based upon my professional experience. In the UK there’s a long waiting list, possibly being reduced now, unless you go privately. Good luck. 1 1

TheFishman1 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I would had one done or the second one done at Ram hospital in Chiang Mai and I noticed it before the preparation if you mix a little bit of like lemonade and with the mix it makes it easy to drink it that’s about the hardest part and knocked me out within an hour I’m wide awake no headache no bleeding in blood no bad effects whatsoever it’s my second one I have every 5 to 8 years For some reason I wanna say it was around 25,000
Sheryl Posted January 23 Posted January 23 25 - 35K at a private hospital...with periodic promotions at lower rate. Not sure how readily one can get this at government hospitals in Chonburi nor which (if any) govt hospitals there have the capacity (many provincial and community hospitals, and even some regional hospitals, do not). In Bangkok, can get it at Chulabhorn Cancer hospital (government) , under 10K last I heard. https://chulabhornhospital.cra.ac.th/ 1

kimothai Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I do most everything at Bumrungrad and as someone else quoted 34k baht a couple of years ago. I did pay for my Gf (Thai) to have a colonoscopy done at Bangkok/Pattaya and the fee was 20k baht. May be a price just for Thai.
Iron Tongue Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Are you in a high risk group? If not, perhaps you can take a pre-screen test with a stool sample? These are becoming more accurate as they check for DNA changes & blood which look for cancerous or pre-cancerous changes. So you have to poop into a bucket, but it's done at home and a lot more dignified than the colonoscopy cleansing ritual & then having a probe shoved-up your backside. There is even a newer test using a CT scanner, but I don't know if it's available in Thailand yet. 1

So both were less than 30k. Not sure if there's a Thai price, that would be <10k, and would suspect there is, if not on the gold card system or out of one's coverage zone.
Sheryl Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Wait is usually less at Chulabhorn which is why I suggested it over Chulalongkorn. Also they at last report did not have dual tier pricing as fewer foreigners go there. Among govt hospitals in Bkk, Chulabhorn Cancer Center probably best for this

It still has much higher sensitivity and specificty than other tests, and allows for the immediate removal of pre-cancerous polyps which stool tests obviously do not. Also, the type of stool test you mention (Stool DNA (SDC2) methylation) is not yet widely available in Thailand and quite costly. Of course, for people unwilling to undergo colonoscopy, or with medical contraindications to it. Stool test -- even the much more widely available and cheap test for occult blood, but preferrably the Stool DNA (SDC2) test - is certainly better than nothing. But as OP is about where to get colonoscopy, this does not seem to apply to OP.

RocketDog Posted January 25 Posted January 25 1 hour ago, Sheryl said: I think you mean San Paulo? Yes. Sorry. I grew up near the usa border with Mexico that that popped into my brain. Getting old sucks. I will add that they have a wonderful European expat acting as a liason for English speakers. Not sure if he's a doctor but knows their capabilities very well. He told me most procedures there are significantly cheaper than Bangkok Hospital down the road a bit. My inquiries on various procedures to both hospitals proved him correct. I've been in my share of cardiac operating suites in hospitals all over the USA and find San Paulo to be on par with the best at least the OR they used for my procedure.

I'm thinking of going to that hospital as I'm currently in Koh Chang. Did you have to meet the doctor first and then book the colonoscopy, or can you book it directly? How much did it cost? Cheers.

I don't remember costs. I paid myself as I wasn't insured at the time, so it wouldn't have been enormous. Maybe 30k? The gastro doctor prescribed the procedure. I stayed in overnight. I think the pre-med, the incredibly strong laxative they make you take along with a lot of water, actually got rid of the problem I was experiencing. After that I had no further internal examinations for maybe 10 years. I never had a problem at Trad Bangkok hospital. Used them for many years as I lived on Koh Mak. But that was the only IP experience I had with them. You could go to Chantaburi as there are a couple of private hospitals there, or try Trad government hospital. YMMV!
SurinBeach Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Just thought I'd update here from good old Phuket Hospital Bangkok : FROM 46,000thb to 99,000thb. Bargain ! Sounds likes it'd be cheaper for me to go for a 3 day holiday somewhere .... The estimated cost for Colonoscopy with possible biopsy is: (Out-patient Case) For Colorectal Disease Institute: 46,000 to 49,000 THB (Normal Colonoscopy results) Price includes pre-operative test (blood test, Chest Xray and EKG), laxative for bowel preparation, The surgeon’s fee, anesthesiologist’s fee, operating room, and recovery room are for 2 hours. Price will be different if you have a polyp because we have to use special equipment to cut the polyp and send it to pathology. 68,000 to 99,000 THB for 1 hour procedure / Starting Price

Stocky Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I had a colonoscopy last week, Bangkok Hospital Hat Yai. Total cost, including the removal of five polyps with biopsies, thankfully all benign, was Bht50k. Unlike my previous experience at the Sikarin Hospital Hat Yai I felt no discomfort during the procedure, I was fully sedated and woke up in the recovery room. Prep with Picoprep wasn't so bad as previous prep regimes. All in all I was very happy with the Bangkok Hospital Hat Yai. 1 1
