What's tragic is I bet the same farmers are paying for fertiliser when they could be composting, or ploughing in, that stubble and enriching their soil for nothing. I put all waste vegetable matter ( including coffee grounds) into a rotating composter and it's a matter of weeks before it's usable soil. 2 1

There ar a lot of issues with the biggest being stalled traffic.

Popular Post spidermike007 Posted January 25 Popular Post Posted January 25 Progressive reform on burning - green harvesting https://youtu.be/thXstqQcdQ4?si=yExPfXaED66a4vyP This is an absolute travesty, and fall squarely on the tiny shoulders of the do nothing PM. They're absolute unwillingness to do anything about this situation is an abomination and the list of things that could be done to address this problem are countless. They could start by pulling over diesel vehicles spewing out enormous clouds of black smoke, but that would require the highway patrol to actually do some work, which they utterly refuse to do. They could then get the provincial authorities to crack down on the heinous crop burning that's going on with sugar and rice, which is being perpetrated by farmers who have zero regard for their country nor their neighbors. Crack down on them hard and set an example. For the first offense with a small fine, much larger fines for a second offense and massive fines for the third offense. Word would get around and Farmers would start using more environment mentally friendly techniques even though they required more work. If the government cared one iota which they don't they would start convincing Farmers to switch crops and start moving away from 16th century crops like rice and sugar, moving toward more progressive crops which are potentially more profitable. If they felt the need to stick with rice and sugar they could educate the public on how those crops can be processed without burning, and subsidize the purchase of the required equipment. Then they can move on to tackle the sale of diesel vehicles, and the government's enthusiastic support of such. It is inane in this day and age. Most nations are moving away from diesel for good reasons. When they are not well maintained, they foul the air, with large, nasty particles. And who properly maintains their vehicle here? 2 1 1

lordgrinz Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Kasikorn Research Centre is predicting 3-6 billion baht economic impact if the pollution persists for a month. Hopefully our globe-trotting PM gets at least that much commitment during her Davos junket. https://www.nationthailand.com/business/economy/40045490

You don't get something from nothing, ie they still need to add some fertiliser.
terje johnsen Posted January 25 Posted January 25 The reasons goverment not do anything with the bruning is that they are afraid of losing voters. The party that have the prime minister was voted in by farmers and punish them is like losing power. If goverment wanted to do anything they just have to tell police to do their Job and they not do that. 1

FritsSikkink Posted January 25 Posted January 25 He and his family had power for years, what did improve?
Chomper Higgot Posted January 26 Posted January 26 The PM fronts a political party that relies on the votes of Thailand’s rural voters. Add that to the power of a certain food conglomerate and it is clear nothing will be done. 1
DTL2014 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Can you imagine this country trying to phase out diesel? it hasnt even been mentioned ...in fact it is probably churning out more disel vehicles - i would say the minister fro transport has not done enough .free bus rides on those filthy ndiesel monters is the not the way forward - start by scrapping them - or convert to electric. Everybody in the world would like silent quiet Garbage trucks- why dont they start there??? waste to energy plants can even charge the things up ..

Yeah the other thing I noticed yesterday was watch where most of the traffic gets held up on Suk. Under the BTS stations so there is no where for it to go. Hell even the bars that hve doors are closing them to keep it out.
tomazbodner Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Went to The Mall yesterday. Traffic was worse than before free public transport, and shopping mall was full of people buying air purifiers... Even most expensive models were going out the door which I honestly haven't seen before... But the cheaper, standard models... all sold out.
fondue zoo Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I know they don't want to, money in the pocket and all that, and this nonsense they keep presenting about how traffic is somehow the cause, but only at this time of year somehow.
