… fippin ek….  This has the be the biggest load of bovine-muck I’ve read….

“Thai laws seem only to apply to Thai people”…..   I’d argue a polar opposite - just look at any check-point in Phuket & Pattaya !!!….

& isn’t there a common conception that when a Thai breaks a law it’s a 500 baht fine & a Wai whereas a foreigner gets the book thrown at him or it costs him dearly - equal treatment is certainly a distant reality.

The people who have made the comments quoted seem to suffer from overwhelming hypocrisy masked by a severe case of pulling the wool over their own eyes…..

A Thai mother is calling for justice after a foreign motorcyclist collided with her son’s motorcycle on a road in Phuket and fled the scene, leaving only 4,000 baht in compensation. The Thai victim sustained injuries, and his motorcycle was damaged in the incident.

The mother reached out to the Facebook news page Phuket Times to seek justice for her son, whose identity, along with hers, has not been disclosed. The page reported the matter today, January 24, stating…

“A Thai mother is calling for justice! Her son was hit by a foreign motorcyclist, resulting in injuries and damage to his motorcycle. The foreigner handed over 4,000 baht and left the scene, claiming to be in a hurry. He even asked her son not to file a complaint with the police before disappearing.”

The accident reportedly occurred on a road in the Ban Kuku community in the Ratsada sub-district of Phuket. The victim has filed a complaint with the police, but no updates have been provided.

The incident sparked widespread discussion among Thai netizens, with many sharing similar experiences and expressing frustration with the perceived inaction by police.

Comments included…

“We have to admit that the officials cannot do anything about this.”

“They just think money is everything, and they are not scared of the Thai police.”

“My boyfriend was a victim in a similar case. The foreigner gave him 1,500 baht and fled.”

“I had a similar experience just yesterday. A foreigner hit my vehicle and simply said ‘Sorry’ before speeding away.”

“Thai laws seem to apply only to Thai people. Migrant workers and foreigners face no consequences for their wrongdoing, and Thai citizens are treated as second-class citizens.”

“Thai police are always too busy to deal with these road issues.”

One commenter recalled a similar incident from October last year, where a foreign woman crashed her car into a motorcycle in Phuket and left the scene, offering 3,100 baht in compensation. Although the case was widely reported by Thai media at the time, there has been no follow-up or resolution.

Typical behavior for Thai. Get as much as possible for an accident. The boy probably agreed to the 4000 and the foreigner left then when he got home his mom saw $$$ possible and scolded the boy for not collecting more.

I had some woman reach out and grab my steering on my motorcycle and pull me off the bike causing her leg to catch on the foot peg. It cost me almost 500,000 baht after the mother got involved. Haha she wanted 2 million from me.

On the opposite side of the fence.. A Thai woman caused an accident with me sending me sprawling and some minor damage to my bike and my body. She fled and even though the police found cctv evidence and knew who the person was that owned the bike. They did nothing and there was no compensation for my injuries or for the damage caused to my bike.

I have had quite a few of these 'accidents' in my 15 years or so in Phuket and the only time I didn't have to pay out was one in which I finally managed to find the right clip of the 'victim' ramming my rear wheel arch whilst I was stationary (as per usual), from the rear camera in my car. The senior copper there said to him 'why did you do that?' and my wife ran up and hugged him..! So I didn't have to pay out, incredibly, but there was no payment from the Thai guy to me.

In the west If the offender has limited funds the government has first dibbs leaving the victim uncompensated. I've seen it happen many times . A drunk hit my friends car did $2000 worth of damage, had no insurance. He was fined $2000, that's all he had so my friend was stuck with the repair bill. Another time two blokes stole a load of beer. They were caught and one paid a $200 fine and the other $400 but he was not compensated for his beer. So a system that puts the victim first has its merits.

Thailand is a pragmatic country as the law of justice is slanted towards the rich. Lawyers, judges ,politicians , you can influence them if money changed hands.

So if disputes can settle amiably unofficially without going to courts, what is wrong with that.
Mafia and Traids had been doing that in society before there were any meaningful law enforcement around.

I got hit in the back by a Burmese guy last week no licence no insurance no registration no helmets no brakes 3 wheeler so I called the coppers they arrived and took pictures then off to Chalong station, the cops took his passport and tomorrow I go to pick up money but that's it so I'm happy he's paying to fix the damage but in the western world he'd be in jail but this is Thailand so I'm thankful for that.

Keep up the good work - keep up bashing foreigners and foreigners only. Having said that, take those culprits to court; specially if registration plate number etc. is known/photographed. The rent-a-bike-shop will know the customer and if not, take the shop owners to responsibility.

Having said that, I see every few metres Thai citizen openly breaching each and every law there is. Driving on the wrong side of the road, crossing intersections when red, no helmet or four, five and six people on a bike - the list is endless.

Bottomline is that the absolute ignorance marred with arrogance is not only a "foreign drivers syndrome" but explains Thailand in quite a wrapped-up way that laws are here to be circumvented at all costs.

So stop bashing on foreigners only and take all those drivers into custody, irrespective of race, nationality etc. - me thinks!

The common theme to all the incidents reported by netizens is that the foreigners fled the scene of the accident. They did not wait for the police to show up. Common excuse "Im in a hurry", which in all probability was the reason why the accident happened in the first place along with the poor road infrastructue and traffic. Welcome to driving in Thailand, be forewarned. Have you considered walking instead of driving everywhere?

If aliens have any legal immunity(in case of criminal  cases),  WHY so many foreign nationals are at BKK Hilton?

The most absurd post I have ever known since my settlement here.

Just a matter of Ignorance?

Or

Intended to cause mass hysteria/rage   among Thai net users?

Expecting to trigger instant violent reaction in case where foreigners caused some trouble with own people?

"If the laws won't get them, we will..." like.

I don't deny vigilante justice in emergency.

But encouragement of needless/senseless  use of force for the petite issue is too dangerous to anyone.

"Thailand is all about money"...gawd, same old lame, hackneyed BS.   Any reason why the Thai victim should not be properly compensated?

Thanks for your farang apologist stance as always.

Makes me feel better about the farang doing a runner on the poor kid who will just have to suck it up.

I like how you didn’t make any mention of the poor kid but were outraged instead of a few translated FB comments.

Seeing many Thais don't even have a driving licence of any sort, and often flee the scene of any accident,  I don't think they are too bothered whether the law applies to them or not.

Many Thais also offer money for minor accidents. Far cheaper and quicker than going through the insurance.

Maybe there was more than minor damage here, in which case the foreigner should have offered to go to a bike shop with the guy, and get a quote for repairs, or at least exchanged details to negotiate repair cost. Then no need to involve the Police.

Then again, it could be the Thai hoping to milk the guy for a big payout. It was in Phuket after all.

How much money would they have accepted if a Thai national would have caused the accident?

yeah! I have a friend who had an accident with a st*pid motorcycle rider and it was him who made him crash him....when he was in the hospital, the guy expected my friend pay for the bill (because he said he doesn't have money)

He touched his heart and paid...

OK - Bar Stool Banter, but I heard of a case recently where a farang was involved in an accident with a Thai. Thankfully no injuries, but there just happened to be a couple of motor bike cops passing at the time, and asked the farang to show his driving licence - which he did, but then asked the police to check the Thais driving licence. He was told "Thai not need driving licence"!!!

Total rollocks and yeah even when it is obvious to the police that a  young Thai motor cyclist who passes on the inside and a car driver indicated turning left collides with it and a little scratch on the leg but have to pay 3K Baht!!!!

MalcomB thinks otherwise... its always the farangs fault...    those who think otherwise are Thai-bashers, such are completely unrealistic delusions....
