I disagree.  They can stop one person,  as 1000's drive bye.

RTP cannot solve this issue. It is the people driving making the stupid decisions to do what they do.  Poorly educated, selfish, not caring.

If the RTP did their job and stopped fined and impounded as many as they can the driving public will change.

The article reads, 'driven by a 19-year-old British-Thai man'

Poor parenting, the old man is probably a lowlife foreigner, now the son is filling his shoes.

That means he was Thai but his dad was (might have been) a Brit.

Probably never had British citizenship or a Brit passport, or ever been to the UK, maybe never even met his dad (after all, this is Pattaya).

And certainly not a farang.

This is not a tragic accident. This is the result of reckless driving by a 19 year-old self-centred pri&%k. No regard for anyone but himself. Has to go to jail and banned from driving. No leniency should be given because of his age.

Given that 73% of the road fatalities in Thailand are motorbike riders, statistically, you are 50% more likely to be killed in a car crash in the USA

It stands to reason that the majority of deaths are motorcycle related in Thailand. No helmets, wearing flip flops, shorts, tee shirts, weaving in and out of traffic, cutting in front of cars and obeying no traffic laws. Motorcycles are a death wish in Thailand.

You are correct of course motorcycles are going to get 2nd prize if coming in to contact with a 1 tonne suv or tree or lamp post.

Unless they go flying through the windscreen

very sad indeed, I hope the deceased family can find the strength to get through losing their daughter so early.

As for the crazy driver,   to the monkey house for 10 years.

I will not be satisfied with any less than 30 years.

Also, let's have an amputation as a bonus for him.

Some people just don’t read past the headline . If we get down to the genetic level for the cause of this crash , I’d wager it was his Thai genetics that were to blame, if he was at fault and driving  like an idiot

After that remark I'll wager he has bad teeth!!

direct result of having no adequately-financed police force.

An aggressive traffic law enforcement would incur funds for a more adequately-financed police force. And increased well behaved drivers.

Imagine what a difference it would be if there were speed traps, cops citing people for sloping in other lanes, failing to use turn signals, jumping traffic signals, tailgating and a zero tolerance traffic enforcement with high cost penalties and vehicle impoundment opposed to a measly 500-1000฿ fine…stupid drivers and drunks population on the roads would decrease and lives would be saved.

I agree but if the local police aren't provided with the budget and equipment needed (and that has to come first) it will never happen.

FFS, more carnage, very sad, 70% of news stories on here are about tragic accidents on the death roads, when are they going to take this seriously and do something about it, it cannot go on like this, it really is horrendous

RIP RIP RIP RIP

In the UK you have to do a Basic Safety Train

'it cannot go on like this' - but it has for the20 years I've lived here.

'70% of news stories on here are about tragic accidents on the death roads,' - speed is the biggest killer; a direct result of having no police force. - 'RIP RIP RIP RIP' RTP.

In the UK you have to do a basic safety training before your even allowed to get on a bike with L Plates. They teach you to drive in the middle of the lane not at the side. That is because when you drive at the side of the lane, cars will continually try to squeeze past increasing the risk of what happened here. So a long way to go for Thailand to get safety on to the roads. Thais can ride bikes, but safely, no.

Be careful doing that, oil likes to drip out of cars right in the middle of the lanes.

How you figure? People die at 5 times the fatality rate in thailand than usa when you standardized the data

dud you deduct motorcycle deaths in usa? Probably not

The only surprise is his age, I hope he enjoys Thailand prisons.

He's half thai

Whereas I agree that the Thai police should be doing something about the carnage in general, I doubt they can do much about this type of incident. Well not just something - its well past time they took this seriously because it is deadly serious.

If laws were enforced and proper punishments handed out people would not behave so badly on Thailand's roads. So in my book, much of the blame lies squarely with the police.

A start would be a instituting a proper driving test, followed by checks to catch the thousands that drive/ride without a licence every day and just say they've left it at home then drive away after paying a 200 baht 'fine'.

R.I.P lady.

Sounds like dangerous driving.

if that's so, hope he get jail time for this.

P.O.S.

More likely his parents will pay compo, negotiated by police, to the family - no jail time.
