You think applying tariffs will slow down fentanyl smuggling and illegal migrant crossings?

Yes, if Canada cooperates.

43 pounds in a year, OMG the excited states of america will be ruined.

36 trillion in debt and they are rich? If that was a company they would bankrupt.

When you owe the bank $500K the bank owns you. When you owe the bank $36 trillion you own the banks.

Until you can no longer pay the interest and the principle becomes due.

I for one am going to really enjoy the squealing of the MAGA worshippers, when the light dawns on them that their hero has thrown them under a bus. Welcome to a recession, and higher cost of living.

What Trump is doing highlights the importance of being careful what you wish for.

They are going to need a lot more buses.

I believe the largest manufacturer of buses in North America is "New Flyer", a Canadian firm.

All available to purchase with a 25% tariff!

The Fentanyl "supply chain", if it could be dignified with that title, consists largely of Americans procuring the stuff from abroad, and selling it to other Americans. A determined effort to disrupt that chain within the US would cause far less collateral damage, both to adjacent and the US economies than tariffs. Remove the market.

However, I suspect Mr Trump sees (imagines) huge quantities of Canadian and Mexican cash swilling around in his treasury, giving him the opportunity he needs to reduce personal tax on his billionaire backers.

It is of course a simplistic argument, but then he is rather a simple fellow.

Trump’s tariffs lunacy is very quickly getting to the ‘fund out’ stage,

DOW futures are down 550.

Tariffs on the oil America needs, that’ll work.

The price of eggs has not gone down.

43lbs of Fentanyl is 19,500,000 lethal 2mg doses.

And that's only what they found.

Millions of Americans care about their 401K, millions more care about inflation.

Trump supporters on this forum have until very recently been fixated on inflation, their concern on the matter seems to have suddenly evaporated.

Trump's been a couple weeks.

Everyone knows inflation is "transitory"

As long as enough voters are happy for the midterms, that's all that matters.

Sorry about your 401K, yeah, I'm down 0.22% YTD

Thank you for demonstrating my point.

Right now the US is strong enough it can bully anyone but when that changes and it will, there is a long list of nations ready to  stick it to them.Trump is making the list longer.

It is changing already, America has a lot less influence than it used to, and countries like China are a lot less dependent on America than they used to be. So Trump as usual is dramatically overestimating the importance and influence of the US, and this will come back and bite him on his huge butt.

This may be true in some instances.  It will work for products that are primarily purchased in the US.  Companies that produce products that are sold globally will be forfeiting the reduced labor costs if they return their manufacturing to the US.  That will cause the US product to become more expensive than products from their non-US owned and non-tariffed competitors.

That is exactly why those companies moved production out of the US to begin with, costs have skyrocketed in the US to the point where it is likely that 90% of these products that Trump is imposing tariffs on would be prohibitively expensive to manufacture in the US, and still generate a profit on the sale.

Trump is too simple minded to understand something like this, it takes a degree of intelligence to comprehend complex problems, which he definitely is not equipped with. There is a terrible price to pay for an IQ of 89, when you are in his position.

Trump getting bit on the butt should make you happy, yes?

You'll be able to open the borders back up and get the illegals flooding back in, you can have men in girls' showers again, more DEI, men back in women's prisons all after the next election.
