All you guys making jibes about this. Do you realise that you could be joking (and worse) about a man who may have come to serious harm?  He hasn't been heard of for 11 days.

Get your point @MangoKorat and me personally if he is found face down in a shallow grave or a canal will feel total cr4p as I have bantered about it.

But there is no point in being pessimistic about it is there?  At least if you keep it light hearted about him enjoying himself somewhere there is hope isn't there, there are no such thing as bad jokes posted on here about him enjoying himself somewhere different unless anyone is actually wishing bad upon him which I do not believe anyone is reading through the posts.

The way some of you lefty posters are posting you've already got the guy in his grave, while there is no word from him in my mind he is just an adult that extended his holiday simples!

Lefty?  If being compassionate and reasonable then yes, I am a lefty.  However, I suspect that most of my mates would totally disagree with you.

Yeah Ralf got you there fella, it hurts doesn't it same as me, however there is no reason to always assume the worst in my mind, optimism is a better quality than pessimism unlike some of the lefty we love the world posters here accusing people of being stand up comedians etc where in actual fact we do care but aren't going to lecture everyone else like our accusatory fellow posters.

If this guys family was reading this thread what posts do you think would make them more happy? The fact he could be somewhere just enjoying himself or he has come to a tragic end like some of the leftys are suggesting and chastising people who are being light hearted that might give the family hope?

The problem is, this man had a return flight booked that he failed to turn up for.

Jeez if they sent out the search parties for me every time I missed a booked flight the AN people would need a bigger server room for their computers and Topics.

With the cost of a one way flight to the UK being around £5-600 with a decent airline, I can't see him intentionally missing a flight.

You may have missed a lot of flights, I've put in over 150 long haul flights and only ever missed 1.  Most people don't miss their flights and when they do, the usually book another and let those waiting for them know.

OK chaps I can see people assume I am not being compassionate here which is completely incorrect, I have been in situations like this before where I don't want to return to my fat ugly wife in England so extended my holiday.

I didn't want to tell my Mum because she was friends with my X-beetach.

I think we need some context here and until he is found one way or another the leftys should stop assuming the worst and I will keep my optimistic posts going - fair deal?

🙂 nah I was trying to incite a political conversation about Trump to detract from the more morbid, pesemistic and fatalist people here that assume the worst for this guy, by me saying he is probably OK and living it up in a soapy, and Trump is the only one I could think off the top of my head that polarises people more than I do 🤣

Well I would tend to agree with you......especially if this is/was his first trip to Thailand........I landed here 1993......and was blown away.....555

Another vanishing act?

I hope he is found, if he wishes to be found, and that he is found...

Safe and Sound.

This news sort of reminds me of the film....

Deer Hunter...except...

Not the same country, of course.

The guy in Deer Hunter didn't seem to want to be found, even though his friends cared about him most deeply.

What was his name....

Christopher Walken?

Sometimes travels begin with the best of intentions....and then....

One becomes immersed in a foreign environment, an exotic environment that one is ill-equipped to deal with, and then....

The unexpected happens.

One ventures into foreign habitats, and the local flora and fauna eat one alive.

Fortunately, this has never happened to me...

Or I should say, so fortunate for my family that this never happened to me...although....I DID....once...

Vanish into Mainland China for a spell, without staying in touch, and it was, to say the least....rather...

Difficult for my family to be subjected to the suspense of not knowing.....

What had become of me.

NEVER DO THIS....!

This is my caution and warning to younger men who entertain the idea of....doing a .....

Vanishing Act....

Intentionally.

Let's hope, for his family that....

All will end well for everyone involved....not to mention....

Even for those of us on TV who have now become involved, and worried....

Caught up in this drama...

Just by a random headline.

Walken, where are you now when we need you most, in order to shed your interesting/unique perspective on this disappearance?

Very good advice Mr openSUSE my go to OS is still Ubuntu for personal use, tails if I am hiding 🙂

RHEL if I have to make money at a company and WhoNIX if I didnt need a pardon from Trump 😉

Detracting slightly yes, hopefully this guy will turn up safe and well or I will be making many posts tomorrow admitting I was incorrect.

I don't think anyone has said anything bad about him maybe jibed at the fact he may not want to be found but the worst and best outcomes are both possibilities unfortunately 😞

Please feel free to call me "Mister openSUSE", anytime.

I take this as a great complement and honor to be so honorifically addressed.

It is actually possible to be poisoned, not fatally, with adulterants slipped into one's drinks.

Definitely, this is just one hazard of not maintaining proper vigilance when one is out and about...

In the evenings.

A few thoughts:

1. His holiday was very short, he flew on Jan 18, meaning arriving on Jan 19. Went out with his mate on the 20th.

Due to fly back on the 24th, so only 5 nights in Thailand. I would suggest that means only Bangkok ( night life).

Perhaps waylaid by cunning stunts. it's happened to many.

If his son's birthday meant so much to him, why did he fly out just before it? Surely better to celebrate it with him in the UK? But his girlfriend said he always called on his son's birthday, does that mean they don't live together or he's always away?

2. There was a 'plan'. Smuggling cannabis to the UK is the latest, only get sent down for a bit. That last bloke who 'disappeared' turned out to have diverted his return journey via Helsinki, laden with a pile of amphetamines, was it?

3. Something bad has happened, in a fight, kidnapped, murdered. In which case CCTV cameras, witnesses at the pub, hotel, checking hospitals, etc might be able to shed some light, but so far no-one has stepped forward.

4. Unlikely but I hope so true. He's seen the light, ordained as a monk and is now to be found walking on a monk's morning alms round somewhere upcountry.

I reckon numbers 1 or 2 are on the money.

I know people think I am not compassionate but this guy lives a couple of miles away from my brother, neither I nor my brother know him but still don't want bad sht to happen to him.

To be pragmatic if I was the RTP (I am not) and in the detective room briefing my staff in a meeting this would be the plan, I am sure they have already thunk about this:

i) We go to The Abandoned Mansion Bar & Restaurant and request/subpoena all CCTV which 99.9% they will have and figure out exactly which direction James went when he left there

ii) If he went right he is heading towards Asok and the vicinity of Cowboy there should be many cameras on 14 especially as it leads to Asok BTS

iii) Then go to the BTS people request every single piece of CCTV footage from all cameras around the time frame James disappeared and if he went that way should 100% appear on it

iv) If he went left he is only going to end up on a main road that runs underneath the BTS CCTV coverage there may be limited towards Benchakitti park that has a large lake, so in a worse case scenario worth looking in that area and hopefully nothing will be discovered

v) If he is spotted near Asok with huge CCTV coverage should be able to tell if he headed to Cowboy or Nana which is also walkable given it is Sukhumivit will be heavily covered by CCTV

vi) If the CCTV pays off then without a doubt you will find him communicating with the person you most need to speak to

vii) If there is no CCTV of him leaving Abandoned Mansion I would put them under a lot more scrutiny and look at any other areas he may have left from there without going onto Soi 14.

I am not in any way saying how the police should do their job and I am sure they are way ahead of me on this but sometimes the willingness to divulge information if it would make Thailand look bad concerns me.

I hope there is a positive outcome on this for his family and that he really has just decided to go under the radar and needs a couple of weeks to get his head straight or something.

Epping is lovely. Some of the best fights I ever had were in Epping!

Hope the guy is ok - well let's say balls deep in a "money pit" level of trouble not murdered or in hlopital level of trouble.

Epping Forest Country Club? Used to have the odd scrap there myself back in the day.
