Foreign netizens defended themselves and called for more public bathrooms in Phuket after Thai nationals condemned the foreigners on social media for urinating in public.

The Phuket Times, shared images of two foreign men urinating on the footpath on February 2. The news outlet criticised the tourists in the caption which read, “Pee everywhere #PhuketForeigners #QualityTourists.”

The two foreign men were seen using cars to shield their private parts while urinating. The man in a dark green shirt was spotted urinating against a parked van, which soiled both the vehicle and the road. Thai netizens criticised the tourists’ actions in the comments.

“What’s wrong with this? It’s the spot for dogs to pee, and they did right.”

“Can I have scissors to cut it off to feed ducks?”

“What would happen if they did this in Singapore?”

“Hope their penises rot.”

“This is better than defecation.”

However, some Thai and international netizens took to social media to point out that the two foreigners had to urinate in public because no public bathrooms were available, especially late at night when they were drunk.

“I want Phuket and other tourist destinations in Thailand to have more public toilets. Two million tourists arrive, but only 100 bathrooms are available. Demand and supply are not balanced.”

“Most public bathrooms close before tourists start getting drunk. Some toilets that stay open late are hidden at the back of parking lots with no signs. A tourist would not find them, even if they weren’t drunk.”

“Phuket has no public bathrooms.”

Despite the lack of public toilets, these two foreigners may face a fine of up to 2,000 baht for making public spaces dirty, according to the Public Cleanliness and Orderliness Act, similar to a foreigner who urinated at Phuket International Airport last week.

And, what would happen if they did this in India?

In fact, let's send them to India, posthaste.

Ok not nice, but we've all been caught out when on the lash, but how many Thais do I see on the side of the road taking a leak.

From the balcony of my condo in Jomtien. I see nightly at least 4 times an evening or night Thais pulling over and getting out to pee on the side of the road,

Not only does thailand need more public toilets, they need to stop charging for it. 5 baht or whatever it is why pay when i can do it on your wall for free?

Ever walked down Soi 9 in Sukhumvit?  It's a rear laneway for the businesses in Soi 7/1.  All the vendors from Sukhumvit road go there to urinate ...

It's the same by the canal paths in Bangkok and Chiang Mai and no doubt other places in Thailand.

Let's not get emotive and blame the tourists.

I llke the comment about dogs would use that place to pee also. It says a lot about Thai mentality. Noone would bat an eye if it was a dog peeing there or even another Thai. Yet, see a foreigner doing it and the netizens are outraged and the police are hunting you down to make you pay. The cities want their millions of tourists yet do everything to make it impossible even so much as making it very difficult to empty your bowels.

These photos of foreigners peeing, The men go to extreme lengths to make sure their privates are not shown. They do not seem like they are doing it to disrespect Thailand or the laws which means their really is nowhere to use a toilet or they are unable to find it if there is one. What would you do if you had to go so badly that even peeing behind a car or building was the better option?

Or perhaps Thailand should offer disposable pee bags to carry with you should you feel the need to go and can not find a toilet? Oh wait a minute. Thailand also has a lack of public trash bins as well and someone would need to carry that pee bag with them until they got home or the netizens would be complaining this also.

classic case of the kettle calling the pot black. Thai hypocrisy at its best.  build more infrastucture and repair what you have.  where does all the money go?

Phuket needs far more public toilets.

But the authorities only want the arriving tourists, don't want to spend money for toilets , typical (Pukhet) thaistyle

You can see male Thais peeing in public everyday of the week, I don't see any outcry from their fellow citizens about that, kettle calling the pot black...

I've.seen a thai woman crap in the gutter and thai men piss on phone boxes and walls in cties. Nobody bats an eyelid.

Most taxi riders piss on the street nearby.

Give me the location of 1 public toilet in phuket, pattaya or bangkok that is free and provided to the people by the council and not a truck stop, shop or bar.

I can think of 1 in a park. Rarer than hens teeth.

Maybe if foreigners take thousands of pictures of Thais (like tuk tuk drivers) peeing at the side of the road and posted them to the web someone would consider adding to the public toilets available.

Peeing in public is so common here that Thais have a special phrase.

Shooting rabbits (ยิงกระต่าย)

Start taking their photos and publish them as being from a concerned farang

It will be interesting to hear about the outcome
