CCTV Captures Motorbike Crashing into Police Vehicle at Junction

CCTV footage has captured the moment a motorcycle crashed into a police vehicle at an intersection in Nakhon Ratchasima. Authorities rushed to assist the injured and transport them to hospital.

 

The incident occurred near Phimai Police Station on 7 February. Footage from a security camera outside a local residence recorded a police patrol pickup truck from Phimai Police Station driving through the junction, located just 20 metres from the police station. At the same time, a motorbike carrying a young man and woman, both estimated to be between 20 and 25 years old, approached from a straight road before colliding forcefully with the side of the police vehicle.

 

Both the motorcyclist and their passenger sustained injuries in the crash. Two police officers inside the patrol vehicle immediately exited to check on the injured individuals and contacted emergency medical services from Phimai Hospital. The injured were promptly transported for medical treatment.

 

The impact left visible damage to the police vehicle, with a dented door and a shattered side window. Meanwhile, the front of the motorbike was damaged.

 

 

An investigation is now underway to determine the exact cause of the collision and whether any legal action will be taken.

It looks like the motorbike had right of way but there may have been signs I could not see. Or perhaps it is an unmarked junction where everybody should check to see the way is clear. Neither did. So, definitely the police vehicle driver was guilty of careless driving and quite a serious instance of it.

 

Amazingly it looks like both people on the bike were wearing helmets!

 

The music was great.

 

The dog was first on the scene offering assistance.

Maybe the biker was on a "major road" by customs and therefore expect right of way. Otherwise it's vehicle coming from left had right of way.

BUT: the biker could see the pickup far enough for a safe stop/slowdown. That's what I would do because here rule #1 applies: bigger vehicle first 😊

So, if it was an unmarked junction, why are you only posting the police was guilty of careless driving?

In Thailand it's give way to the left, except at roundabouts.

Where Thailand rules apply.

The one who one driving the smallest vehicle gives way.

How stupid assumption. Of course I know that, as I have been driving in Thailand for over 20 years.

My comment was because it was a police driving, and they should show more attendance to what happens around them as they are there to protect. Moreover, we do not know if there is any signs tells a different story.

    Yes, spouse and I wonder how they will ever work in Thailand.  I'd like to see how it would handle an extremely busy, 4-way intersection without a traffic light near where I live in the Mabprachan area of Pattaya.

No one has mentioned the fact that the motorcycle was on the right when the collision occurred. Assuming that he was riding on the left as he approached the junction, if he had stayed on that side of the road he'd have missed the truck completely!
