Stray Dog Crisis at Pattaya Sports Center: Urgent Call for Change

Residents are calling for a sustainable solution to control stray dogs at the Eastern National Sports Training Centre in Pattaya. This plea comes after a 10-year-old girl, Kanom Pang, was savagely attacked by a stray dog on Saturday, February 8.

 

Kanom Pang and her father were attending the popular Burapha Bike Week event when she was bitten by a stray dog. The attack occurred as she and her friends rode electric bicycles past a gathering of these animals. The bite on her left leg was severe, necessitating 15 stitches. Some parts of her leg were so damaged they couldn't be stitched.

 

 

Channel 7 revealed that no official body took responsibility for the incident, and the stray dogs remained in the area following the attack. More than 10 strays were spotted around the venue, many sheltering under parked food vendor vehicles.

 

Local vendors reported that residents often feed the strays, yet no one has adopted or claimed ownership of the aggressive dog. Disagreement exists among vendors, with some attributing the increase in dog numbers to the feeding, and calling for authorities to intervene before another attack occurs, as this wasn't an isolated incident.

My wife said Thai’s for the most part treat and manage dogs like Gods!

Rules for people none for dogs.

The next soi over from me has one 

house with 5 dogs outside , constantly fighting and howling, barking ,chasing cars & motorcycles.! What use to be a clean looking residents community 

for people , looks & sounds like a junk yard dog village.

In my area. some feeders are doing penance for merit, to alleviate bad luck as suggested by the monks at the nearby Wat.  They set off the dogs in my neighbour's place when they wander about....

Fortunately they seem to let bikes go by, well I have been okay on my motorcycle.

Allowing wild dog packs is a highly visible sign of a 3rd World country.  Until authorities grasp the final solution nettle, attacks on children (some fatal), tourists and local motorbike riders will continue to mock Thailand's bid to be considered a modern country.

It's a nation wide problem. Make a deal with Vietnam and hire loads of dog hunters. Problem solved🤗

Shelters cost a lot of money and nobody wants to bear the cost. Better give them to the Vietnamese, problem solved or better say eaten 😁

Very good idea.

I also posted the similar text in some other thread recently.

That way, the nuisance vermin can be useful resources that generates new income.

Even though it is highly unlikely to come true.

Years ago, someone doing it privately arrested and prosecuted on the grounds of animal abuse.

Shrugging off their shoulders: Common Thai attitude when it comes to the stary dog issues.

 

Relentlessly encouraging homeless dogs to breed on, while it has been a physical threat to the society for decades; frequent dog attack incidents nationwide. It often results in the death of the most vulnerable (infants and infirm elderly).

 

Even a cop was arrested  by shooting  dangerous street dogs to protect own family member.

Just shows  Where the Priorities lie in this country .

None for People .

 The Government.  They Know  What has to be done But But No one no one has the guts to Start what has to be done Except at some time someone will Knock of a few or bait some   and  those  People  get in trouble for saving  the people from Harm.

Another brilliant (practical) idea.

Even though they recently banned the consumption of dog meat back home(the new law will be enforced in 2027).

7.62x51mm for a dog seems overkill.

.22 will be enough.

Or even air rifle(silent unlike charge weapons) does its job if the shot is well-placed(in the head).

So the hunting can be done in the middle of the night without disturbing the locals.

There are even animal volunteer foundations actively collecting donation for dog feed.

Many of them often hate their sterilization, while some does.

Thailand is keen to retain the 3rd world country status for practical reasons; they are greatly benefited by that.

Such as lower license fee to generic medicine production.

That is why the cost of over-the-counter dose is often so inexpensive here.

In that respect, expats are also beneficiaries of that scheme.

It's obvious that such admirable campaigns as TNR (Trap, Neuter and Release) are/would be ineffective where ten million (as already mentioned) are involved. Then there are the objectors to such schemes. Requires teams of dog catchers and humane destruction.

Tell that to the 10 year old girl who was bitten and her parents also.

 

I am sure that they will feel much better about the dog bite then.

 

The best solution is to put ALL soi dogs down, and if an owned dog is put down also, tuff. It should not be wandering the streets.
