I'm a big fan of Cast Iron fan, use 99% of the time.  Have one 'Lodge', wouldn't recommend as overpriced, and I had to 'finish' the cooking surface.  Bought 4 others online, and fine.  I see them now at Global House.

 

For a wok, nice carbon steel of course, though no experience myself.  We have  big wok-ish pan, actually non stick, so don't cook at those high heats, and really don't see the need.   I rarely do stir fries anyway.

 

Stainless steel rocks, but make sure the skillet and pans are flat, as my one is slightly raised in the center, which I hate, as oil drains to the edge.  Silly design.

Robinsons at airport plaza has a big selection of name brand cookware....

Some Rim Ping branches have quality cookware....It seems to depend on store size on how much they offer....

I went to the Yok in Hang Dong thinking they would have everything kitchen = waste of time..... It's possible they might not be officially "open" yet.....

Makro's mostly geared for vendors needs & not top tier stuff......

I can strongly recommend Tefal pots pans and woks. I have tried many brands but these are run away winners in the non stick department.  Providing you are careful not to use metal cooking utensils with them they just go on and on without losing their non stick coating.

They have in Big C but the same sets are available on Lazada for a few hundred baht cheaper.

Is Tefal teflon? 

 

Is Teflon cancer causing if scratched?

Had the opposite experience. Mine lasted about 6 months. And I was very careful with it. And, yes,  if you scratch Teflon you should get rid of it.

cast iron is probably going to weigh more than my wife.,,, any favorite brand? Buying an entire set of something would be nice...

No brands, and not really needed.  I got my 'Lodge' skillet, most used pan, next to egg pan, from Villa Markets, damn silly price, and actually disappointed, as had to finish the surface.

 

Egg pan, use every day, got that from Global House, very inexpensive and very nice.  Two others got from LAZ, vendor no longer listed.  

 

Flat 'pizza' skillet, got online, but forget where, maybe Central, was also inexpensive and very nice.

 

Stainless Steel pan set, got from Central or Robinson, but wouldn't recommend.   Their Cuismate brands,  thick bottom, and wouldn't recommend that style and brand.  Really crap.

 

Wife does have a problem with main cast iron fry pan, and a bit heavy for her.  It's my 'go to' pan.

I am trying to make this as easy and pleasant for my wife... Just want one box set of a good brand... she tends to like sets of things...

Usually sets are crap value, as half the pieces are lids.  Really do need a variety.

 

Mandatory for me is ...

... 24cm CI skillet, my 'go to' and must for searing meat (reverse sear steaks)

... Same with CI egg pan, though any non stick small pan will do (low heat).  Our egg pan is for eggs only

... large CI 'pizza' skillet, no sides (other 2 in back (round), don't get used much).  Forgot about the 'ribbed' one, and rarely used.

No, Tefal pots and pans are not teflon. Don't be misled by the name ( you can google for confirmation )

 

I like them because even more expensive brands I have tried are not as non stick.  I only use a plastic or wooden tool with them and when washing NEVER scour with steal  or scotchlite. I just wipe excess grease off with a tissue then sponge with washing up liquid. If on occasion I forget something is cooking ( chilli ) and there is a little sticking as a result I just soak in water for 15 minutes before washing.

Bought a set of Hafele pots for around 1400bht and good quality for the price and non stick . The zebra pots in Makro are ok but I find the edges heat up too much inside the pots and cause things to burn when reheating or cooking sauces.

I think what is probably best is to stay out of it and tell my wife just to buy whatever she wants...

Robinson and a few other places have Meyer sets that have saucepans/lids and frying pan.  All in stainless steel. 

 

The particular model I had for years was the Meyer Classico.  Can be used on induction cookers/stoves

 

Good thick base not like some of this thin tinny <deleted>e that burns everything even if you put a candle under it. 

 

Good to buy when Robinsons have a sale

Agree, my frying pan from Tefal took a dive after 5 weeks - overpriced junk - You have to be careful though as there is a knock off brand aimed at dyslexics, it is branded "TAFEL"

 

Seagull are not too bad for the price, some of the Meyer pans are quite good. I was given a set of Zwilling pans (Central Festival Chiang Mai) with a 50% discount, really nice and well made, but a bit pricey if there is no discount.

This store on Lazada sells high quality cast iron pans. Get the big one. FANTASTIC! 

Avoid teflon unless you like cancer and replacing every 150 uses.
