DMK, possible to buy Philippines peso?

That's how currency exchange works pretty much everywhere in the world.  If you want to buy a foreign currency, you do it with the local currency. 

 

You could start with another currency, but they will first convert that to the local currency and then convert that to the foreign currency you want.  So you end up exchanging twice and losing some money each time.  Again, that's standard practice everwhere I have seen.

 

Regarding buying peso, you will likely get a very bad rate in Thailand as its not a commonly exchanged curreny.  I bet you would be better off buying some US dollars or Euros and exchanging those is phils, or do what I do and withdraw money with your atm card in phils.

I do have USD & Euros. I will arrive bad time, no exchange open.

Maybe taxi will accept them. I know gals will...

So in worse case I do as I did in Portugal and Rio - spent 1st night at whorehouse and paid with "US dead presidents".

I won't dare put my cards in ATM in any place in Asia...

I've seen money changers open at very late hours at both Cebu and Manila airports where I have arrived.  The rates at Cebu airport were terrible last time I checked, Manila not bad not great.  Guessing you can always find a taxi to take your dollars worst case.

Every airport knows you are a "captured" client so they have no incentive to give you a good rate. Travel through Europe and see how much Travelex rips you off.

Very true.  About the only exception I know of is that in the basement Suvarnabhumi near the rail link there are money changers with good rates.

 

More useful to the OP, in Philippines most malls have a money changer with decent rates.  It's better to exchange the bulk of your cash after leaving the airport.
