In Phatthalung, an intense fire broke out late at night, engulfing the home of 83-year-old Viroj Rongrueang, a retired forestry official. Fortunately, all five residents managed to escape without injury. The house, made of wood, was completely destroyed.

Police Captain Sorawit Rakjui of the Mueang Phatthalung Police Station received the alert about the fire at the two-storey residence located at 22/7, Village 9, Tha Miram subdistrict. The quick response involved local firefighters and rescue teams, who rushed to the scene with two fire trucks from the Phatthalung Provincial Administrative Organisation’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department.

When the officials arrived, the flames had already spread fiercely, threatening nearby homes. Neighbors were seen hurriedly moving their belongings as the fire reached the kitchen area. Remarkably, within 20 minutes, the firefighters managed to control the blaze, preventing extensive damage to adjacent properties.

Viroj, reflecting on the incident, explained that he was asleep downstairs when loud bangs, akin to gunfire, woke him. Discovering the flames in the living room, where a computer, TV, and sound system were kept, he quickly alerted everyone, ensuring their safe exit.

Initial investigations suggest the fire might have started due to an electrical short circuit. Damage assessments are ongoing, but the whole community is relieved that there were no casualties, reported The Thaiger.
