It would be a much better forum if it charged a monthly subscription fee, say $10.  I'd pay if that fee kept out the idiots...

Sadly, I expect the wingers and complainers would still pay the 💰 to have their voices heard.

Some of the skinflints are not idiots. We might owe some impecunious posters who are worth more than $10 per month.

All the troll and aI posters are driving people into posting less.

I only wonder why they then keep feeding the troll?

When one of those suspicious members makes a post, it hit's 2 pages with replies in the next hour

Why do people gather in a forum mainly about Thailand to fixate on Trump?

Septic pests I call them.....        Its impossible to open any 'new posts' page and not see some rambling about Trump...

...  Sure, by all means have it in the background, where people can go to their 'favourite' debate about 'merica'... and they can dig it out for there... But to have it cover the page in nearly every thread is getting ridiculous...

Its becoming a mental instablity issue now - people stay away from it.

(and for the record, this is first time I've mentioned the T word and its only in context with getting this rubbish of the main pages of a forum designed specifically for and about Thailand...

Hide T topics in a sub-forum and prevent it from showing up in 'new topic' / 'new posts'...

A lot of that info is already at our fingertips now without having to resort to asking for questions on here... so that content may have changed now unless looking for personal recommendations.

I've had some extremely useful 'recommendations' on this forum in the past...

The medical section is excellent - lots of good advice and of course the visa section is still there.

The food recommendations are good although tastes are quiet different - Best burger each year is often a good one as everyone likes a burger, and so many new places pop up.

Where to get a good reasonably priced quality steak is a good one...  For me that would be at home.

a 2" thick wagyu short bone tommahawk (or Cote de Beuf) skillet seared...  then oven finished (with garlic butter and rosemary of course)...   So those discussions are always good...

But it seems more and more people here just don't accept facts.

I agree with your point but I would change "don't accept facts" to "don't accept other people can have different opinions". The word "fact" is a minefield - "facts" change - one the most famous ones was "the world is flat"  until someone proved otherwise. And in the political arena one man's fact is another man's poison!

Most of the interesting commenter have simply disappeared over the years. I've been on and off for the last 14 years, from the days of Thaivisa, and people are just stop posting. You wonder what happened to them.

People have other outlets and more going on in the world with the internet. This was probably a big place back in the day and now it's just another site about Thailand.

There surely were some interesting times on Thaivisa a decade or more ago. Wasn't sure if Thailand was for me after reading the forum topics and posts.

More sterile now. There's not much to say, anymore. Or YT channels have covered it a million times.

Much of the internet is boring now. No real single community or two anymore. Homogenized as well.

Another thing that is really driving traffic away is all the threads about the doings of Donald Chump.  Why they cannot be collated into one thread I don't know. Any new person coming accross the site for the first time probably thinks it is a site about American politics.

However , I would continue coming here just for the visa and legal threads. They really are useful and all that keeps people coming.

SO TRUE!

I let 10-15 editions accumulate and then review them all at once stopping only for something germane or useful.

Takes about 15 minutes

LOL

There are facts. And there are opinions.

Smart people know the difference.

I am happy to discuss things with people with different opinions. We (can) learn from each other.

But if people don't accept facts, then it doesn't make much sense to discuss anything with them.

The interesting commenters are still around. You just don't get to see their content. It's all dumbed down or censored by people with their own agenda.

You are either with us or against us kind of agenda.

It all mostly FAKE these days. Every conversation in a political sense is shaped to be extreme and abusive.

All you see is abuse from one side left unchecked, wherein reasonable voices are removed and accused of Trolling. So there is no real discussion at all. Only what looks like extreme division. It makes it seem that there is no one in the middle.

Ask a normal question and the Trolls come out to play. Someone asked about a cheap car rental they spotted and 90% of the replies were mocking and negative towards the OP and anyone who actually tried to help.

For me, it's supposed to be a community where we help each other and celebrate what makes us similar and what makes us different.. This board amplifies the opposite of that.

Many people would say Donald Trump (who you have posted about times before) was "smart" after all he became President twice - yet would you say he knows the difference between "fact" and "opinion" (and indeed stating something as a "fact" just because it served his purpose).

IMHO he is not smart, and he does not know or care about the difference between facts and opinions.

It seems to me in the USA it's important to talk a lot, even if it doesn't make any sense, to get elected.

But I have to admit I just don't understand those Americans. They are strange.
