Briton's Dream Anniversary Trip to Thailand Turns into a Medical Nightmare

Surely, the first mistake they made (apart from not having sufficient insurance) was spending time in  India, the filthiest place in the world.

There need to be a travel insurance that covers absolutely everything for any amount of time with no get out clauses .

Absolutely. People don't injure or make themselves ill deliberately. In UK NHS treatment isn't refused or restricted due to the patients recklessness.

Those prices seem ridiculously high.

.....four surgeries to remove infected tissue, incurring medical expenses of £15,300 (approximately 651,000 baht).

.....expected total expenses reaching at least £33,300 (about 1.42 million baht).

A commercial flight with a stretcher could cost around £42,500 (approximately 1.81 million baht), while an air ambulance is estimated at £140,000 (about 5.97 million baht).

Maybe the entire story is fake news and just a way to make money. Seems this story keeps replaying with different names and photos - but always same story.

Not seen many needing throat operations

Tonsillitis contracted in India, not covered by insurace? precondition? It appears that rather than going back to the UK from India they decided to continue their holiday to Thailand.  It also appears that she was rushed to the Thai hospital after they had celebrated her birthday. Party first, hospital emergency second? Maybe some poor decision making??  Hope she gets better, but ....

You just can't escape your racism, can you.....

I bet despite your clear bitter hatred for the brits, if you meet them, you are all nice and buddy buddy to their face... why the hatred ?  was you bullied by one when you were a kid ?

Another case of people neglecting proper insurance and then expecting the public to cough up......

quote from Daily Mail....

<<<

John said: 'We have two insurance policies. One was for like 134 days, which covered us for India. And of course, we came over to Thailand.

'What they're saying, because we were in India and then went to Thailand, we're not covered on the insurance policy.

'The [other] they're saying you get 31 days of cover, which is free, but because we left the UK on November 2, that cover ran out on December 2. We were thinking that would cover us for Thailand, but it didn't.'
>>>

Idiotic - making assumptions instead of reading the policies. (The first was for India only and the other appears to be their U.K. health insurance which gives 31 days instead of the 134++ days they spent away. Basic wilful ignorance.)

Good luck to the ol' lady.  I hope she makes it back home and gets the care she needs.

At 69 and willing to travel to rough places for their Golden Anniversary gets my respect.

I doubt that 1-in-10 members here would have bothered or been able to afford full medical insurance coverage.

No insurance, haven't got a paltry  15k in the bank, they need their heads examined, not good luck.
