An incident occurred in the early hours of February 21, when a fire in a rental room claimed the life of a 59-year-old man in Doi Saket District, Chiang Mai. Emergency services were alerted to the fire at approximately 00:10 and quickly dispatched firefighters to contain the blaze, which was threatening adjacent units.

Upon arrival at the scene, responders found the fire raging within the rented room located in Moo 6, Pa Pong Subdistrict. After approximately 20 minutes of firefighting efforts, the flames were extinguished. However, when authorities attempted to enter the locked room, they discovered the body of the victim, later identified as Mr. Anan, who was found charred inside.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire might have been caused by an electrical short circuit. The police, alongside forensic officials, are conducting a thorough examination of the site to determine the exact cause of the fire. The remains of an electrical pot near a refrigerator was discovered, and investigators suspect it could have sparked the initial flames, igniting nearby clothing and other materials within the room.

Surveillance footage reviewed by local police revealed that Mr. Anan had parked his yellow passenger vehicle outside his rental room around 22:06 the previous night before entering alone. Neighbours reported that the lights in his room were off shortly thereafter, only for a fire to erupt around midnight.

Investigators found no evidence of a struggle or foul play, ruling out the possibility of homicide.

Authorities await further results from the autopsy to confirm the cause of death, but it appears the victim succumbed to smoke inhalation and burns. The family of Mr. Anan has been consulted.
