I guess everybody recalls this wonderful song, and it was great...TRULY.

 

I even had the album, as I recall.

And, it was fine.

 

However, if one were to stray off the beaten track with BOB....(not Bob Smith) heaven forbid, of course....

Then there were other lyrics which were downright....embarrassing.

 

It happened to me, one time, when I had two albums of Bob's aplaying...

And then, Bob started singing about some fairly taboo moves, and NOT just his usual night moves...

Downright EMBARRASSING, for sure, when sitting around with a fairly "new" date.

 

I will not post the raunchiest ones here.

But, no doubt, you know the ones.

 

So, my GF was not too embarrassed, as it turned out, because she was Chinese, and English was her second language.

(Back in 1974)

It was I who had the red face.

And she thought nothing of it, since she had no idea what Bob was singing about.

If she only knew....

She might have been titillated, and this is a known unknown.

Wish she had known, now that I think of it...in fact.

 

So my question is why and how did Bob come up with such raunchy lyrics, in the first place.

 

Did you enjoy them?

Were you disgusted by them?

 

Or, what?

Note:  NO, this is a family-friendly site.  And so, I will not hurt the forum by posting some of Bob's lyrics here.  You can find the choicest lyrics, for yourselves....if you wish. But...personally, I would not go to the trouble.

In the mid-70s, I really tried to "get" why some really, really liked Seger, bought Beautiful Loser and Live Bullet but he didn't click at all.  Pedestrian lyrics for the most part and non-adventurous music.   I never got the feel that he was hungry enough to conquer the world.  I'd bet money that Katmandu was originally called Kalamazoo, such was his lack of ambition.  Then, I think he just sold out (best example, "Like a Rock.")

 

If John Mellencamp is a pale imitation of Springsteen, Seger is a pale imitaion of Mellencamp.

 

I even tried listening again.  As Live Bullet frequently shows up on best ever live albums and I no longer have my vinyl, I got a copy of Live Bullet on CD.  Still meh.

 

So, I guess I never made it to the raunchy songs.

I always remember relating a song by Bob Seger to many  of the Thai women I met, many had "The Fire Down Below."

Some songs are good.

Others are embarrassing.

 

Good singer with a distinctive voice, thought provoking and fun lyrics people could relate to, a backing band more than adequate and lyrics sometimes raunchy like most all other rock bands because people like them.

Somewhere Tonight is a great *life* song.....

GG what are your feeling about Dear Prudence by the Beatles? Seems much more likely for you to enjoy. 

Ha!  That's nothing.  Get ahold of David Allen Coe's x-rated album if you really want to hear some smut.  Reminds me of the misogynist (and proud of it) stuff we played at the fraternity.  Like the "End of the Month" song.  And we watched the Man Show, back when Kimmel was funny.

 

Not so proud looking back as an adult.   But that's all part of growing up.
