Greta Thunberg Arrested in Copenhagen Protest Against Maersk’s Ties to Israel’s Military

Protests erupted outside Maersk’s headquarters in Copenhagen on Monday, February 24, as climate activist Greta Thunberg joined demonstrators demanding that the shipping giant sever its ties with Israel’s military supply chain. The demonstration, which saw activists blocking the entrance to the company’s offices, quickly escalated as Danish police moved in, using batons and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Thunberg, now 21 and widely known for leading the ‘Fridays for Future’ climate movement, has increasingly taken a vocal stance on geopolitical issues, particularly in support of Palestine. Speaking in a video posted online, she stated, “We are here to demand that Maersk must stop all the transportation of weapons and weapon components to Israel.” She further urged the company to cancel all contracts and investments linked to what she described as “genocide and occupation” in Palestine.

Despite the protests, Maersk defended its actions, insisting that the shipments in question do not contain weapons or ammunition. Instead, the company described them as “military-related equipment” transported under a US-Israel security cooperation programme. “The cargo has been screened and complies with applicable laws,” Maersk stated in response to the allegations.

As tensions outside the headquarters grew, police initially attempted to negotiate with the protesters. However, when dialogue failed, authorities opted to use force, citing the demonstration's location on private property. “We tried using dialogue to get the protesters to leave the area,” a police spokesperson explained. “It’s a private area. And in the end, the dialogue stopped and then we had to use the necessary means to remove the protesters from the area.”

Thunberg and 19 other activists were ultimately arrested during the protest, highlighting the growing intersection of climate activism and political advocacy in global conflicts.

She wasn't protesting against a war though .

She was trying to help her side of the war win the war by stopping the enemy receiving weapons to fight against the terrorists that she supports

Terrorist or Freedom Fighters ...

That you could suggest that Hamas are freedom fighters rather than terrorists, shows exactly where you are coming from; but having seen some of your previous comments on the issue, hardly surprising …. apologist

Do you regard the people who carried out the Oct 7 attack on Israel as "freedom fighters"  ?

The people who took that baby hostage and killed the baby and then gave the corpse back to the Father 14 months later .

  Are those "freedom fighters"?

Wasn't there, and don't know (or care) who to believe in the news ?

Both sides deserve each other ... IMHO   If not mistake, both have violated peace agreements they've signed.   As I said ... Som nam na

Far from an apologist.  I believe Hamas should be eliminated from the earth.  I also have a very negative view of the Israeli govt, which I'm not allow to be specific about, or it will be deleted, as anti sematic.

That you can't say anything negative about Israel is a bit telling.  So again, who to believe in the news.

Sounds like a waste of perfectly good padding.

A few headbutts to the wall might knock some sense into her.

You can say negative things about Israel .

So you are in favour of the IDF defeating Hamas  and you also support the weapons that would be used to defeated Hamas , you support those weapons being kept from Israel ?

  Two contradictory  opinions there

She was not protesting  against war.

If she was, she would have her selection of  wars that need attention   now. For example.

- A few days ago, 70 Christians were beheaded in the Congo by an Islamic militia. It is part of the  targeting of African Christians. Is her lack of concern because they were Christian?

-Islamic militias have so far murdered 100,000 Black Africans in the ongoing genocide in Darfur.  They have also raped and mutilated thousands of children. IS her lack of concern because they are Black?

At the very least she would condemn the atrocities of Hamas on both Israelis and the Gazan arabs. Apparently, she has no concern with the fact that the  Gazans strangled two Israeli infants and then mutilated their bodies,  nor is she disturbed by the inhumane shows that Hamas is putting on as it forces hostages to read speeches as they are paraded in public.

She is a vile creature and will get her just reward one day.

Maybe he was referring to that Israel imposed a lot of restrictions on daily lives of the Gazans and those living in the West Bank.

or are you going to deny that happens as well?

How many UN resolutions against Israel ?

How many have they violated or ignored ?

As I stated, I have nothing complimentary to state about Israel's govt, and the 2 queries above is about all I'm allowed to state.

The Israel gov't treat Palestinians horribly ... IMHO

And that opinion will never change, in my lifetime.
