Former UK and Canada central bank chief Mark Carney wins the Liberal leadership race. He will succeed Justin Trudeau as Canada’s prime minister and Liberal Party leader.

Mark Carney, a political rookie but experienced banker with a history of helming state financial institutions during crises, won the race to replace Justin Trudeau on Sunday.

The new Liberal Party leader arrives with a colossal task at the top of his to-do list: defend Canada from Donald Trump.

The political landscape in Canada has been upended by the return of Trump, and for the first time in years, the governing Liberals are ascendant. Carney will take over as prime minister in the days ahead after being sworn in by Canada’s governor general.

In his book How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them (2018), Jason Stanley defined fascism thusly:

A cult of the leader who promises national restoration in the face of humiliation brought on by supposed communists, Marxists and minorities and immigrants who are supposedly posing a threat to the character and the history of a nation. The leader proposes that only he can solve it and all of his political opponents are enemies or traitors.

Hitler was a marxist in the 1920s lol

Despite his initial interest in Marxism, Hitler later rejected it and developed his own form of socialism, which he called National Socialism. He argued that his socialism was about shared social identity rather than collective ownership, and he saw Marxism as a Jewish strategy to subjugate Germany and the world.35

In a 1923 interview, Hitler explained that he chose to call his party "National Socialist" because he believed that socialism was the science of dealing with the common weal, and that Marxism was not true socialism.4 He aimed to take the term socialism away from the Marxists and redefine it according to his own nationalist and anti-Semitic ideology.

Let's wait and see if Canadians are daft enough to vote in another radical leftist Liberal government.

From National Post, 8 March 2025. Jordan Peterson: Mark Carney doesn't value a prosperous Canada

"Thus, not only is Carney the advocate of the worst ideas — climate apocalypse tyrannizing, DEI moralizing, ESG regulation — he is literally their champion; poised at the vanguard of their distribution and imposition. And not only are these terrible, divisive, economically destructive and narcissistically grandiose ideas; they are ideas that have already failed.

The Americans are abandoning the DEI shibboleths en masse, individual voters, companies and governments alike. The populist rebellion is gaining force in the U.K. and Europe. Even Blackrock and Vanguard themselves have leapt off the ESG bandwagon. Thus, Carney’s much-vaunted international consensus in such regards is collapsing — or has collapsed.

This means not only that our would-be prime minister led the whole world in the wrong direction — literally, in the worst of directions — but that he failed while doing so, and by the criteria that he himself established. More tellingly, however, and more damnable: he appears to have learned from that failure only that he is now fit to leave the international scene and lead a hapless Canada over the same precipice."

Later:

"In closing, a warning to Canadians, hoodwinked into believing that Carney’s much-vaunted international experience makes him capable; makes him someone able, even less convincingly, to stand up to our erratic American compatriots to the south. Mark Carney, formerly of the Bank of England, has the patina of foreign-bestowed competence. In truth, however, he is a man with all the flaws of Trudeau, and that’s saying something. However, in his admitted networking, managerial and administrative prowess he presents far more danger. Our hapless previous Dear Leader was at least hamstrung in his pretension by his incompetence. Carney is as addled in his values as his predecessor, but much more efficient and unwavering in his implementation."

Hitler was not a Marxist in the 1920s . He wrote "Mein Kampf" in the 1920s ( published in 1925. It is a turgid, chaotic rambling, narcissistic ( ring any bells?) account of his political beliefs but certainly does not espouse Marxism.

That he used and redefined the term " "socialist" does not make him one.

Still, never mind, you and the usual suspects repeat the big lie loud and often enough, eventually the weaker minded will believe it. I can't remember, just now, who first developed that concept but I am sure, in time, it will come to me!

He was a marxist for 1 or 2 years. He was very much a socialist. Big government, big army, no free speech. These are the traits of the left.

If one is into progressives, WEF and carbon neutral then Carney's your man. Trudeau's darling, complete with, more of the same governing and worse. He'd finish what Trudeau and his daddy started if he got elected. (depending on who Trudeau's daddy is). Provinces would be begging for "statehood" after that creep is finished with Canada!

Carney is switched on and a great speaker, and ANYBODY is an improvement over Trudeau! However, he is still too left. We gotta get more leaders near the middle--preferably somebody that nobody wants--or we'll keep bouncing to the extreme on either side, which just pisses off 50% of the population.

The National Post is owned by PostMedia which is owned by a USA Republican Party leaning hedge fund that is an enemy of most Canadians. Its sister publication is the National Enquiry. It's debateable about which has more accurate reporting. Peterson's opinions are as indicative of most Canadians as it is of his fellow faculty members at the University of Toronto. No one knows him in this country. He plays to a Yank audience by going on Rogan and such. The Tories in Canada are led by a pipsqueak called pee-wee Pierre. Someone who has never had a job outside of politics.  People see him as a Trump clone. Once it became clear that Trudeau would not be running again Tories dropped 10 percentage points in the polls. Right now the smart money is on the re-election of the Liberal Party. Personally I'm a social democrat so I could not vote for the Tories or the Liberals will be happy to see the economist win over the Trump disciple

That is a bunch of nonsense. The voting public in Canada are 60-65% ctr-ctr/left in federal elections. Of the five parties with members in parliament only one is right wing. That right wing party is now led by a Trump clone and is sinking like a rock in the polls

41 million people in Canada.  131,700 voted his guy into the PM slot.

"Democracy" UK and Commonwealth style: peasants and commoners need not vote - your betters will select your leaders for you.  Now shut up and get back to work.

The unemployment rate in Canada is calculated differently than the yanks do. Also we have more of our population that participate in the workforce. In other words less people roaming the streets blitzed out of their minds and homeless. 6% unemployment is basically our full employment rate.

Neither Trudeau or Carniey spoke at the WEF this year. Here is someone who did:
