A Volvo XC90 SUV was completely destroyed in a fire on Route 331 in the early hours of 18 March. Firefighters battled the flames for over 20 minutes before successfully extinguishing the blaze.

The incident occurred at approximately 01:15 near Pattaya Country Club in Moo 5, Khao Mai Kaeo, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Police Lieutenant Ruangsak Siribut, an investigator from Huai Yai Police Station, received the report and coordinated with emergency services, including the Pong Municipality Fire Department and local disaster prevention officers.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found the Volvo XC90 with registration from Bangkok engulfed in flames at the roadside. They immediately began efforts to contain the fire, eventually bringing it under control after a 20-minute operation. Unfortunately, the vehicle was completely burned out.

The vehicle’s owner, Mr. Amarin Saengnak, 38, was taken to Huai Yai Police Station for questioning. Mr. Amarin explained that he was driving from Pattaya to Bo Win when he noticed smoke and sparks coming from the front bonnet of his car.

“I had no idea what caused it,” he said. “I immediately called the fire department, but no one answered. So, I contacted the police, who helped notify the fire service.”

However, there was a delay in the response due to jurisdictional issues. Firefighters from Pong Municipality initially arrived but informed him that the location fell under the responsibility of Khao Mai Kaeo Municipality, which caused additional waiting time.

Authorities are now working with forensic specialists from Chonburi Provincial Police to examine the burnt vehicle and determine the cause of the fire. Further investigations will be conducted to assess whether a mechanical fault, electrical issue, or other factors led to the blaze.

No injuries were reported, but the vehicle was a total loss. Authorities have assured that they will continue the investigation and take any necessary action based on their findings.

Very sad that petty, local politics interferes in what could have been a life saving situation.
