Philippines Prioritises Military Training Amid Missile Deployment Speculations
File photo for reference only MANILA – Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. reaffirmed the Philippines' right to independently train and equip its military forces amidst speculations about the arrival of additional Medium Range Capability (MRC) Typhon missile systems from the United States. During a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo, Teodoro chose neither to confirm nor deny the deployment of these systems, emphasising the nation's autonomy in military training and equipment procurement. The discussion follows a report from US-based Defense News on March 18, which mentioned the US Army's plans to deploy the Typhon missile systems in the Pacific, positioning its long-range fires battalion over the coming year. Col. Michael Rose, leading the US Army's 3rd Multidomain Task Force, stated they continually seek live-fire training opportunities. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has embraced these developments, with spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla expressing enthusiasm. The move is expected to enhance training capabilities, increasing military readiness and personnel proficiency. The initial deployment of the MRC Typhon missile system occurred last year, supporting training during the "Salaknib" and "Balikatan" exercises in Northern Luzon. These exercises enhance interoperability between Filipino and US forces, integral to regional security dynamics. The potential arrival of further systems underscores the strengthening military ties between the Philippines and the United States, contributing to regional security and military competency. However, Teodoro's statement highlights the country's commitment to self-determined military advancements, with the DND focused on refining its defensive strategies and training methodologies, reported Philippine News Agency. -- 2025-03-28 -

Bangkok Shop Owner Defends Right to Sell Controversial Shirts
So many Thais buy and wear T shirts with almost anything written, correct spelling or not, without them knowing what it says. And most of them will not know who Adolf Hitler was or about the WW2 or Holocaust, maybe a few more Mr Putin. -

US Revokes 300 Student Visas in Crackdown on Campus Protests
Some of the posters on AN need an introductory course in First Amendment 101, a refresher course at the very least. Among its other provisions, the amendment states (my bold text) "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." PEACEFUL protest is protected, not the extreme disruption seen during the campus protests, encampments and building occupations by pro-Palestinian groups. Nor is harassment of Jewish students an exercise in free speech. It is a violation of both university policy and U.S. law. Mahmoud Khalil and all other foreign students who have lost their permission to remain in the U.S. have violated the terms under which their visas were granted. Khalil failed to disclose relevant information on his application for permanent resident status, which is obvious grounds for revocation. In 2024, the U,S. allowed 1.1 million foreign students to study in U.S. institutions of higher education, an all-time high. https://www.iie.org/news/us-hosts-more-than-1-1-million-intl-students-at-higher-education-institutions-all-time-high/ About 300 are facing removal for various violations that go way beyond protected speech and protest. It's hardly a move that will "chill" freedom of speech.
