To have a chance

They gang up because most are skinny teenage 20 baht punks. Then again the German guy was  probably heavily bombed by 4 am in the morning., so he would've been an easy prey. I rarely get home late after a boozing session and when I do I call a Bolt taxi.

I suspect there is a wee bit he is leaving out of the story.

he was probably too drunk to even remember what he did.

it did happen at 4 am, after a full night of drinking.

it's stooopid to get sh*t-faced here.

I've come across a possible motive. Filming the working girls out there and putting his camera in their face. Not confirmed but I've seen it a few different places.

Yeah they are a bit sensitive about that stuff I was in a go-go in Phuket a couple of weeks ago and was doing a bank transfer on my phone under the table so there was no way my phone could ever be pointed at the girls as something I would never do, however the manager was pretty fast off the mark to give me a bollocking which p1$5ed me off a bit so put the phone away finished and paid for my drink and exited, the birds in there were nice though 🤣

I am not a violent person, and would almost certainly lose a one-on-one fight with most locals.

But even if I was in a position to win, you never win. They come back.

If my friend was in the wrong, and gets thumped by one guy, then my friend deserved it. I would never jump in, just because he's my friend.

If some random fellow compatriot was in an altercation, I would never just piled in, feet first, with other friends, outnumbering the fight. But that is exactly what I have seen so many times here. The Thais (and Cambodians, Burmese and some other nationalities) will see a fight and just choose their side and pile it, with feet and or weapons.

Just like dogs, except dogs know when to stop.

you sound like a nice friend are you not? ITS ALL ABOUT ME....

they misunderstood the situation as a fellow motorbike taxi driver was involved, and wanted to defend him

I think perhaps this is a translation error.  I'm pretty sure they said, "We saw the foreigner daring to argue with a Thai, and knew that he deserved a savage beating and severe injury in response".

If there is any doubt about the locals' unguarded feelings toward foreigners.  Take a good look at some of the water throwing hate-fest Songkran in Pattaya.

Then I always stay inside, what else can you do better, childish fest.

A German tourist was violently attacked by a group of about ten men on Pattaya Beach Road in Chonburi. Local police in Pattaya swiftly arrested three suspects involved in the assault, which has tarnished the city's reputation as a tourist destination.

Just cannot help themselves..

Pack mentality. No individuality. The group prevail over the individual. Thats why there is no critical thinking. Opposite of the West.

Assaults in the west are always one-on-one, you cannot be that biased and delusional, surely?

Non westerners heritage yes. Original westerners nope, they pass this stage. By self reflecting and improvements. Used to be in the past but they evolve.

I don't see the motorbike taxi that was hitting him in the head with the helmet as one of the three arrested. That's the guy that did the most damage to him. They should stop blurring the faces of these thugs.

I also noticed that immediately, maybe a brown envelope, that's how it rolls again in LOS.
