You're probably not up to date. A takeaway for a short time can cost a tourist 5000 and up these days if he's looking for topshelf. More than 10 years ago, a couple of Aussie friends clocked up a 10k bill in a gogo in an hour. It doesn't go far if you're out to have fun. You can budget, sure, but 15k is not as much as you seem to think for a big night out.

Douglas, aware of common scams, was caught off-guard by this orchestrated attack involving freelancers rather than regular employees. He stresses the need for vigilance among tourists visiting bars alone, recognising the risk of falling prey to similar ploys that exploit intoxication and isolation.

 

Although frustrated by lacklustre support from some bar staff and the police's slow response, Douglas remains committed to achieving justice. If 5,000 is standard for a S T, I can't see it lasting as that is a ridiculous amount of money for a S T.

Are millionaires trawling Pattaya bars these days?

 

If it's that expensive, an escort at home would be cheaper if allowing for the airfare and hotels etc.

I have no idea what your escorts cost back at home (NZ?). I don't P4P in Pattaya myself, but I've been out on the town with many friends visiting who were not on tight budgets.

 

Of course, the prices vary greatly, but you must pay the fine and then negotiate with the girl. I'm talking about taking the girl out, not in an ST room. Factor in rounds of drinks, and 5000 won't get you much. The point was that if you want a big night out in Pattaya, with lots of barhopping, 15,000 wouldn't be enough. (this was in response to one member freaking out because the Canadian had 15,000 of cash on his person when he was robbed).

 

Of course, locals can "survive" on much less than that LOL. It's a reason why dating apps are so popular these days, and then there's always the "coconut bar" option for punters on a low budget.

15 minutes of fame? people do make up untrue **** all the time. He told reporters that he hired a lawyer, but I doubt anyone verified if that's actually true. Would you hire a lawyer over 15,000 and pay a lot more than that on top of what you already lost?? There isn't even a photo of his injuries so we don't even know if that part is true either.

Theoretically of course you are right. But sometimes it is what it is. This is one of those times. Take the hit and move on. When in any red light area scams abound and losses like this can happen.

If you are going to have a good night out in Pattaya, I would say that is about right. If you plan on visiting places with balloons and 60 baht beers, and never buy a lady a drink, it is excessive. I know which is  a better night out though.

During my 4-6 month stays, I'll visit friends in Pattaya 2 or 3 times for a night out. I wouldn't even think of stepping out the door with less than ฿10k cash and my Wise card. No crumpet purchases... I'm very happy with Ms. Sabaidee!

 

A good night on the tiles is ฿15k easy, especially with today's exchange rate. So many tight-arses on AN it's astounding.

I think that he made a grave mistake. He could read many articles and news about red-light bars. You need to avoid such a place for a more extended stay and avoid being intoxicated. After all, did he waste time with a legal procedure? I have no empathy for him.

Most of these men I feel would rather have good cheap access to prostitution in their home country where it's safe but they can't, so they come to a rougher environment. They get treated with a false sense of importance and believe these women care about them as opposed to the social outcast that they are, and they have no situational awareness and cry foul.  I grow tired of western entitlement. Hence this is not Disneyland. If you want to play the game, understand the risks.

been going to Patts since 1990 never had an issue, saying that things do happen and generally it happens due to the tourist bringing it upon themselves, i feel safer being in Patts at night than Sydney at night
