Are you ready for smartphones to become obselete?

From banking to shopping lists, E books to logic games, translator to news portaI

Can you imagine instant translation in your AI glasses, no need to type or hold your phone?

Or shopping lists that pop up on the inside of your AI glasses, no need to type or hold your phone?

I can see how AI glasses will be popular. If they work.

At 79 years I'm not even going to think about whether my smartphone will become obsolete. But I certainly wouldn't want to be without it nowadays. From banking to shopping lists, E books to logic games, translator to news portaI, find it oh so useful.

Just about the only thing I don't do with my smartphone is make phone calls!

Apparently this will happen in about ten years or even much sooner.

Most of us I presume have adapted to smart phones becoming necessary to exist.

This was generally harder the older you are and obviously super easy for digital natives.

But how do you feel about the next step?

Personally I've had enough. I would be happy to see smart phones get better and better, especially more secure, but don't want to ever give them up.

"Apparently" is based on what exactly?

Oh I can certainly imagine just how useful these would be. But as I mentioned in my post, I'm 79 now, I don't think I'll at the front of the queue should they ever hit the high street stores, IF they ever do!

Good luck when the power goes off because they went green and closed the generators down and the wind didn't blow.

They'll be the number one thing on every criminal's list. Real easy to steal.

What a lot of lazy people populate your future world. Too idle to write their shopping list on a bit of paper!!!!!

Apple shareholders will be happy.

Fairly sure some on here will get a "cannot connect" message.

There are some out there that I'm convinced lack a functioning brain, so how they will make it work for them I don't know.

Is the sky falling again? I hadn't noticed. 😉

One of the sillier 'what if' & 'won't happen' in most of our life times.   What next, ground transport obsolete and we all have flying cars or jet packs :cheesy:

Right up there with MMCC/GW & rising seas, along with WW III of course 😎

Exactly zero chance that is happening for me or any of my children. They know better. There is nobody I trust other than God to put something in my brain. And billions agree with my position. Nueralink ain't happening. Ever.

Unlike MMCC WW3 is a real possibility. Never underestimate the desire of our warmongering "leaders" to kill off the young men of the nation. If they imagine that they can have a war without the enemy using nukes, the 1% will be willing to supply the means, for a price.

Never underestimate the desire of the sheeple to do something stupid.

Exactly like the people who predicted smart phones before there were smart phones. That was crazy talk!

Not in our lifetime, or even this century.   Now we have a handheld, All in One, phone, computer, camera, GPS.

That's going to be pretty hard to beat, especially for the low cost of a decent one at <฿10k

What if it's not digital glasses and what if it's not a phone?  I was just thinking about this issue  because I thought I lost my wallet along with my ATM cards, my credit cards, etc.  Fortunately, I didn't but for a while I was mad because I needed to carry that thing around in the first place. There has to be an easier way.

They already have eyeball scans and facial recognition, so those would solve the ATM issue and the building entry issue, for anyone who has to deal with that.

Trying to buy something?  Use your eyeballs and let them scan your retina.  Isn't Bezos already doing something like that at some of the Whole Food stores?  He was also working on some sort of a shopping cart that kept track of what you put into it.  No noeed to check out. Just bag your groceries and leave.

That leaves trying to call or text someone.  Maybe if all the account recognition problems were dealt with in the cloud, everyone would just need a cheap throwaway device for when they're out and about?

Of course, all this would come with a massive invasion of privacy and a loss of individual control.  You would no longer have control over your money, how you spend your money, of even if you can spend your money. And they would have a record of all your communications.

Unfortunately this has already happened to a certain extent - re money think China and more surprisingly Canada.

The average person seems quite happy to give up their privacy and information for convenience although I question how many are really aware of the extent.  The more digital and AI progresses, potentially realty suffers - anybody else see Rabbit Hole with Kiether Sutherland?

Interestingly I read the other week that the people are gaming self service check outs in the UK - something to do with weight from memory. When I was last there I  used them a couple of times and hated them

Self service check outs? Like what Walmart I the USA currently has?  That's been going on for a while.

You check yourself out at the register. Scan an item and put it on your  bag.  They know what the item you supposedly just scanned is supposed to weigh.  So, if you scan a lemon and you then put a watermelon in your bag, that won't fly.  I've gone through that process a few times. At certain times of the day, that's about the only way you can check out at Walmart.

Fun fact: one time, I forgot to scan entirely a can of coffee I had in my cart.  I didn't realize that I got it for free until I got home. I didn't scan it and they didn't weigh it.
