Name this fruit.

A neighbor just gave me a couple of these, haven't opened them yet but smells like lemon. Should have put something to show size, but they are about the size of a large grapefruit.

Looks a lot like the Pomelo or Oroblanco, which is a cross between the Pomelo and Marsh Grapefruit.

I've had Pomelo many times, this is much more sour than that, probably only good for juicing.

We have the exact same thing in our garden. Tastes like lemon, skin a bit like kaffir lime and size of small grapefruit. It must be some kind of hybrid.

Nearest thing I've found online is a Ponderosa lemon.

I believe it is a Ponderosa lemon, Pomelo is far sweeter.

In fact I just came back from Vietnam, and I saw a fruit just like this, and the Pomelo, growing in a few places and temples, and I asked my girlfriend what it was. She named it, and said it was sour and not usually eaten, so this might be what it was. I'll have to ask her when I talk to her later. That Ponderosa Lemon description sounds right. A Pomelo and Citron cross. Edited, yes its a Ponderosa lemon and this is the Thai wording...."เลม่อนพอนเดอโรซา"lemon ponderosa      .or....เลม่อนลูกผสม......mixed lemon.

Don´t really know the name, but they use it for many thing. As a substitute for lime, as well as face and hair treatment

We have some growing here. I couldn't find a translation from Thai. My wife says there are two kinds, one very sour (somsa) and the other (somking) sweeter. They make desserts with it.

Kefir lime. You eat the leaves, not the fruit. That is a very nice gift.

 

They are called Macroute in Thai.

Yes, that is it....I think I have a bush in the garden. I just checked and I have a lot of marble sized fruits on it. Mrs says it is used in soap and shampoos! Last year my bug spray lady raided the tree.

I thought the same, but Kaffir Lime is way smaller than a Pomelo.
