I can read maps I am not stupid
Nick Carter icp Posted Friday at 02:58 PM Posted Friday at 02:58 PM How the building was made and by whom https://news.goalfore.cn/topstories/detail/63177.html?fbclid=IwY2xjawJTeKdleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHagtsVoLRD18AYEo0tZFqpzCk31TelrmIWJPSBjTYrCqiC20vv8hjAv5qw_aem_-ZBg9cv8tf1GfMSVMWtyVg 2
Popular Post Denim Posted Friday at 02:59 PM Popular Post Posted Friday at 02:59 PM The financial repucutions of this disaster are going to be huge and last for many months. Anyone thinking of buying a high rise condo will now have second thoughts. The valuable tourist influx will take a bad hit. Lots of people living in older condos that now have cracks will probably want to move out. The list goes on and on and it will probably be the poorer members of society that are worst effected. 3 1 3 2

Families unable to travel getting absolutely creamed by Taxi drivers... 500-1000 baht for a 50-100 baht fare etc... Hopefully this gets the media attention it deserves and triggers the Police to deal with the scam taxi drivers refusing to use meters etc once and for all... I won't be holding my breath... Thais profiting from a natural disaster that caused dozens of deaths. A new low for them but colour me unsurprised. 4 1 1 4

( source BP newspaper) Do you suppose the Mafia and Thaksin were working together to fill their pockets ? I wonder who built all those skyscrapers in China ? 1

How did this happen it looks to me so flimsy the supporting columns don't look very strong. This should not have happened. Looks to me like the typical Pancake collapse. As one floor collapses onto the lower floor, the floor cannot support the weight and it in turn collapses. It is similar to the collapse of the WTC twin towers on 9/11. 1 1

Patong2021 Posted Friday at 03:31 PM Posted Friday at 03:31 PM I was on the beach in Hua Hin oblivious. I only learned of the quake as I tuned in the foreign radio news via internet I listen to. I didn't get an emergency alert on my phone, although my friend from Bangkok did. He received an automated emergency advisory and a request for a personal safety confirmation from his Singaporean employer, which I was impressed by. They even sent him instructions on what to do in the event of a tsunami and his helpline contact number. Far more impressive than my western based employer.
Kevin_Beethoven Posted Friday at 03:56 PM Posted Friday at 03:56 PM Yeah. Obviously shoddy construction. Been thru a couple similar to that in Taipei. Everyone went around like nothing happened. Me. I was on the 20 floor of an office building and "freaked out" which was a first for me 🤣
lordgrinz Posted Friday at 04:17 PM Posted Friday at 04:17 PM Spent 2-1/2 hours going to get my child out of school, the kids were not allowed back in the building, what a nightmare for gridlock traffic here in Muang Thong Thani. We already had problems getting around with the International Motor Show going on here at IMPACT, but this was off the charts! People everywhere, and all the streets at a standstill. The townhouse (built on sand I am sure) was swaying back and forth for almost a minute, remind me never to go to California, never want to experience that again in my lifetime. 1 1
NativeBob Posted Friday at 04:17 PM Posted Friday at 04:17 PM Ratchayothin, Ratchadapisek, Lardprao roads are paralyzed. "Motosies" (not correct wording) are making fortunes! Fares are higher than during Big Bangkok Flood. 1 1
black tabby12345 Posted Friday at 04:21 PM Posted Friday at 04:21 PM While that skyscraper(under construction) crumbled, the Chiang Mai(closer to the seismic center) apartment(over 50 years old) I live in, didn't have any damages. The taller the building is, the shock of the quake is more amplified.

The news coverage is impressive, yes. But in reality, my condo hardly shook. No visible damage at all, neither damage of the building. Electricity, elevators... everything normal. 2 1 1
DUS Posted Friday at 05:20 PM Posted Friday at 05:20 PM Earlier this evening, I was kind of surprised to see lots of people still outside various condos and even hotels with their suitcases, obviously afraid of going back in and fearing another earthquake.
Popular Post HampiK Posted Friday at 05:29 PM Popular Post Posted Friday at 05:29 PM I think a not finished building is not as strong as when finished. As some buildings need the window inserted to reach full strength. So it's a big tragedy... I just saw at least 1 worker could be saved alive. I hope they can find more of the missing workers alive. 2 1 2
