Thailand’s Restaurant Industry Hit Hard by Spending Slump

Thailand’s restaurant industry is in crisis, with consumer spending dropping over 40% in early 2025. Economic stagnation has led Thais to cut back on dining out, forcing many eateries to slash prices to survive. Local businesses are also under pressure from ultra-cheap, Chinese-run "zero-dollar" restaurants. The 700-billion-baht sector is seeing a wave of closures. Hopes rest on a sales boost during Songkran and a planned 10,000-baht digital currency scheme aimed at young people—but doubts remain, especially as many restaurants still rely on cash. The industry faces an uphill battle to recover.

How do they track these food carts and stalls or even a small % of restaurants ?    I'm sure most thaid in all occupations don't report a majority of their income.
