You are the snotty nosed kid at school I remember, always annoying everyone, I'm sure of it.

I bet you he was the kind of kid who sat at the back of the class making spitballs, but he still did his homework.

When i say ran Thailand down it could mean having a moan about the restricted selling times of alcohol or the thai government ,
Are you telling me you have never had a moan about anything in Thailand?
Never moaned about anything?

soi dogs?

Corruption..

Inverted price structure. .

.noise and pollution?

Yes, I can honestly say that I have never moaned about any of the things that you reference, although I have to admit I don't even know what "inverted price structure" means.  I cannot remember when soi dogs were ever a problem in the parts of Bangkok that I have lived in or go to.

I have never complained about corruption as that would be hypocritical, I doubt that there are many people who have not had some benefit from corruption, whether, just to give a couple of examples, it is police "discretion" on traffic offences or enjoying a drink after official hours.   I'm sure that others have experience of taking advantage of other areas that corruption may affect.

What "noise" is it that you assume people should be complaining about?

No point in complaining about pollution unless you can do something about it and complaining sure doesn't.

I must admit that I have moaned about my two Thai  ex-wives.

Yes, good to see a positive thread about the Thai people in general.

I have been living in various parts of Thailand for 22 years and my position on Thai people, without comparing with anywhere else, is just about 100% positive.

If I were to make an observation about the negative attitudes of many Farang, I would say that most complaints come from those who live in areas where there is a large population of resident foreigners and of course many tourists. This has the effect of local Thai people having their daily life culture compromised and more likely for conflict to occur and subsequent complaints arising.

Most of the reporting of these conflicts originate from Pattaya, Phuket, to a lesser extent around Chiang Mai, and  parts of Bangkok.

For those of us who live in areas of Thailand where there are few tourists and foreign residents; we are more immersed in everyday Thai life so they and said foreign residents co-exist in an atmosphere of easier tolerance of our differences!

People generally don't like it when someone holds a mirror up to show them their true nature.  🤷‍♂️

You are that snotty nosed kid who annoyed everyone at school.

Get off your warrior keyboard, go and play outside, get a life.

Omg, AN has several annoying pesky members but you top the list.

Some people just like to moan, the OP I hasten to add is not one of them. What gets me is the people who moan about Thailand but don't leave. If they find it so distasteful then why do they remain here? I get the impression that ones who complain have never really left their own country. Maybe Thailand is the first country they have visited. I would also think that many of them live their life around the bars which is not a representation of the country. This of course is only my opinion and I am sure others will tell me I don't know what I am talking about.

And you are an angry racist person, who thinks that things that Thai people do are fine, but when a foreign person does the same, they are bad.  You also believe that, on a public forum, other users aren't allowed to disagree with you, and you react aggressively towards them when they do.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

The fact that you cannot bear to have anyone contradict you, or to point out that you are wrong, is something you should probably see someone about.

I haven't said anything that isn't true.  I can understand you don't like to hear this about yourself, but I think it's probably important that you do.

There's nothing wrong with polite disagreement, nor with someone challenging someone else's behaviour.

It's up to you what you do with this information, but I think that a little introspection would be good for you.

You're here for an argument ONLY.

I know your type, that snotty nosed kid had the same attitude.

Lmao so because you had good luck with a washing machine guy at one occassion, you thank the nation entirely? Meanwhile I needed 5 electricians before finding out a rat bite my main electric cable, while our wooden house was at risk of fire as well us for being electrocuted, all having certified papers...

It's like saying taxi drivers here are great because you have this 1 in so many times that you do have a nice one. Which is super rare lol. But if it comes to motorbike mechanics, you win on that, they are always doing good on that. But it is kind of hard to mess those tasks up as well.

Might need to find a qualified electrician if you need 5 so called electricians

Had many items repaired over the years and always the first electrician will find the fault.

Is your friend Bob by any chance?

That Thais are not kind is simply not true, it applies to to a lesser extent on Phuket and Samui and areas where the locals are jaded and deal with a lot of butthead foreigners (Pattaya), but for the most part I find the Thai people as delightful as ever, they're still very light-hearted, it's very easy to get them to smile and laugh, and they're great fun.

The other aspect of this is that the Thai people are fairly intuitive so what you get back is often times a reflection of what you bring to the table. If you're grouchy and ornery and overly serious, they're not going to respond to you. But if you're lighthearted with a nice smile, kind-hearted and respectful, you get all of that back in abundance. Most Thai people are quite lovely. And I love to be around them, and I love it here.

And how about Thai women?

Combine their innate femininity, and the level of comfort they have in expressing that, it makes them very appealing. I see a  Western woman sometimes, who is beautiful, but cold as ice, and more masculine than I am, and there is no appeal, whatsoever.

I think it can be described as the ability to manifest the dignity within femininity. Or, a woman who is not trying to be a man, having lost her sense of womanhood, along the way.

Or a woman who is in touch with her body, and not plagued with feelings of shame and a fake sense of purity. Also, some Thai girlfriends, lovers and wives realize that a man enjoys sex, and allowing them that enjoyment, freedom and pleasure is just not a big deal.

Lastly, there is a comfort level in the playing of roles here. It is an amazing quality many Thai women have. Allowing a man to be a man, and enjoying being a woman and acting like one. What is more appealing than that? And who wants to be with a woman who is more masculine than we are?

Excellent post here which I agree with. If we could just get an improvement on their road behaviour and certain immigration issues, the country would be almost perfect.

There are a lot of expats who cannot leave Thailand because of having Thai families. Bought there houses etc, so no, you don't know what you are talking about.

Quite. My father in law died on Christmas day 2011 and was interred, with his wife whose remains had been exhumed, in a new tomb. This week being Quing Ming we went to the tomb yesterday and dined with them as we have done every year. Normally it would have been the weekend which gets quite busy but as my BiLs wife is having chemo they decided the weekday would be better.

Whatever one thinks of the Thais it cannot be denied that they have a great deal more respect for their religion and customs than the so call "advanced" economies.

Most who work in high tourist areas, such as Phuket and Samui are pure scum.

I've stood near the bakers oven before and heard how they talk about farangs after fleecing them.

Disgusting.

The Don.

They have had very nasty first hand experiences with butthead farangs.

I no have problems with thai people

Pay respect, give kindness, accept the way of their mind, I am helpful, they give back me all. Yesterday I was stranded in the city center, át evening. The last songthaw has gone. I ask a motorcycle taxi man, how much the fare to the outskirt? 150, I ask softly, 120? He laughed, khun! the last red light junction is 10 kilometres from here, and your home are situated far beyond!

I laughed, said, yes khun. You are right, I accept the 150.

We drive home, in a nice mood. Say good farewell at destination.

If Thailand was so bad, then people wouldn't choose it over their own countries, or any other countries they could live in.

LMAO what a garbage comment and opinion. Many western countries are simply hell and super expensive, the fact that Thailand on these ends is a lot better, and for that reason is very livable is ZERO excuses for all the things that happen here that are really bad and really not good. Neither does that make them acceptable.

To be some wannabe idiot who sticks his head in the sand, to then pretend it is all daisies, and that such negativity can't possible exist, well that is absolute stupidity at it's core. At the same time you entirely forget that we are not in the same times anymore as we were decades ago, there is zero guarantees for Thailand keeping the position it once had, in fact there has only been a decrease of expats + retirees here.

With other words: the point has already been proven on every end, the only thing that keeps your illusion alive it the mass group tourism that props things up to keep it alive, and avoids a collapse.

Also even one hates all this, that is no different than many people still in their home countries, coping with that to then still decide and live there as XYZ is good enough in XYZ country for them. This applies as much to Thailand. At least that is honesty, not ass licker work with a snotty nose.

Well here's a positive spin you never hear of.......I accidently left my wallet containing 20 million baht in the back of a taxi. The driver found me and returned it all intact.

Doubtful - with a user name like his, he likely works as a safety guy on a rig... where you work not matter how sick you are !!... its unlikely he ever had a sick day in his life...

But... his hypocritical fragility, collossal chip on his shoulder comes from spending half his life in a position no one respects and everyone laughs at behind his back...
