How can he cut out SS for retirees living overseas?  US citizens working and living overseas have and continued receive and/or pay SS taxes every year.  I believe that Congress would not allow that as they too would lose votes.  IMHO only of course as I am not eligible for SS so haven't paid a lot of attention to it.

It will be interesting to see the additional tariffs, which will now likely come on a huge range of American exports by all the countries that have had tariffs on them now.....and then trump will raise tariffs in return, and then the cycle repeats and no one becomes wealthy. 

 

So ironic that in 2018 Trump signed a FTA with Canada and Mexico that he described (in his own words) as "the greatest deal ever!!"  So great in fact that he has done a complete U-turn and applied tariffs to Mexico and Canada.

 

Good luck America you are sure gonna need it with an oversized,  badly dressed Cheeto running your country and acting like he is the King of America.

These naysayers do not realize that if the cost goes up for Thai products. The people will simply not buy them and most likely, will create a business to compete with them in America. Making it better for the Americans.

Try having something sent to you from the US. 250% tax hike dealing with customs. Yet, as my wife said, Thai exports do not even have to pay tax at all... I am most certain it is the same around the world with unfair trade on imports and exports. It should be balanced out.

Less than 19% of Thailand exports go to the US, #1 but China is a close second.

 

A sizable portion of those exports the US importers will just pay the tariffs, others such as commodities (rice) can just be sold to other countries (notably those not buying American).

 

Exports are not the entire Thai GDP! So there will be some pain, but not enough to cause a relatively stable economy to suffer!

I don't think so. Eventually, everything will settle down and business will be as usual! It will take 1 year or so to stabilize.

 

Yes, the prices will go up. But the increased government revenue will lead to redistribution of funds inside the US including increased wages and increased buying power of population. As a result, the living standard may be even higher than before. It will take 2-3 years to see the result.

the only way to really balance it out and compete with production in the USA is if Americans workers work for a Thai or Chinese salary, maybe that is the next plan

Congress is supposed to be the one enacting tariffs also.  Trump can only do it because he declared an emergency,  and the Republic sheep in congress are doing nothing to stop him.

 

He will do the same thing for social security.  Declare an emergency, claim there is fraud from international social security payments, then stop them.

It's pretty simple . Trump wants all the companies who make products that America America to move their operations to the U.S. and employ Americans. He  has also offered to give them a very low tax rate.
