NB: Just to clarify, the UK has not dropped the F-35 for the Gripen. While countries like Brazil, Thailand, and the Czech Republic have chosen the Gripen, the UK has already purchased the F-35 and remains fully committed to it as a core part of its defense strategy. Additionally, if the UK were to reconsider, it would likely continue relying on its locally built Eurofighter Typhoon alongside the F-35, rather than opting for the Gripen.

You should really do more research on the Gripen E, the Jas 39. It is in some areas not inferior to F-35 at all.  Go through some youtube video comparisons and see for yourself. It's probably the closest you get to the F-35 out there today. It seems you are overrating F-35 quite a bit imo. Or underrating Jas 39, take your pick. (And btw, youtube videos are not always agreeing with each other either).

 

And when we know the Swedish plane is a lot cheaper, you definitely get more value for your money with it. It's another reason why more countries today will go for Sweden's plane. This plane definitely gets the job done, it is that good.

 

We, yes I'm a Norwegian, that's why I mention Norway twice in my posts, we have indeed in our country compared the two (we have 52 F-35s, getting our last badge these days). Although we find F-35 slightly a better fighter jet in total, it is just by the narrowest of margins. In a couple of areas Jas 39 is in fact slightly "better".

If we would have been given the choice again today, we would most likely have chosen Gripen, for the cost, and for the total package (it's not that we can't afford the F-35s..). We have pilots and military personell not arguing with that. We love F-35, don't get me wrong, but Jas 39 was more of an unknown capacity when we ordered the F-35s. Today we know what Jas 39 Gripen stands for, and we would love to support our friends, allies and neighbours. It's a great fighter jet, and a great choice.

 

We can't trust America to be our allies anymore. Trump even mentioned recently to have a killswitch in their F-35s, just in case... An insane comment btw.

There's all sorts made in Thailand that you might not know about.

 

When the factories flooded in Thailand a few years back (12 or 13 years ago from memory) the global hard drive market went nuts and prices were off the charts, companies were hoarding and the supply chain was in melt down for more than a year - from 1 flood

You know that the markup for the retail price is WAY ABOVE the actual cost of manufacturing the product, at least in the case of China.

Anyway, the basic R and D is NOT coming out of Thailand.

These assembly factories in Thailand can be moved OUT....

At the drop of a hat.

 

And, probably soon, the assembly process will become completely automated.

 

And then, these factories can be moved almost anywhere.

 

Thailand is just an assembly point.

 

The know-how is provided from elsewhere.....

 

 

The factories will move back to the USA where the major market is, or elsewhere.

The truth is that Trump presented Norway (just an example I know for sure) to have 30% tariff on US goods, and he was so "kind" to only give us 15% back... Lol.

 

That is a straight out lie. The truth is that our tariff on American goods, is only 2.2 % altogether..!! Many products have no tariff at all. But lucky us, we were rewarded with "only" 15% in return.. 

The 30% is, correctly enough, our imbalance between export/import to the US. We export 30% more than we import. So that's where this number comes from, for all other countries too.

 

The way they presented this yesterday, is more like a scam and a fraud.

Iran, The US has strong sactions already against Iran, and not sure the 2023 Iran exported to United States were Paintings ($869k), Sculptures ($588k), and Brochures ($456k) is a big trade concern.

Russia has strong sanctions. Not sure how putting a Tariff on the Fertilizer and Non-Ferrous Metal we import from Russia will help.

Russia trade for 2023 was $3 billion or .0068% of what China trades with the US which is $439 Billion
