Just about to get a pool built and interested in your thoughts,
 

1. An overflow pool looks better in my opinion but is it worth the extra cost?

2. would a 1.2 sloped to 1.5 meter pool be deep enough if you have gone with 1.5 maximum do you wish you built a deeper pool?

 

Any photos of your pool would be great for ideas around 10-12m meter length would be ideal

Looking at spending around 800k 

I think you will find 1.2 to 1.5 m deep is not enough.

Mine is 14 x 4 x (1.4 to 2.0).

Unless you do it all yourself I think B800000 is too cheap.

Yes we got quoted 880k for a 10 x 4 (1.2-1.5) 

Your pool looks perfect maybe 1.8 max will be enough for us

Looking at spending around 800k 

 

It kinda depends on how tall you are, but for me, a pool needs to be at least 2 meters deep – that's perfect for hanging your spine and stretching it out.

Depending a few factors, work on getting change out of 20 k per sq/m.

I do love the look of them but they will bump the price up quite a bit

Just built a tiny dip pool that is about 160 cm deep next to my exercise room for the hot season.  It is perfect and water is changed  every day from the well that I use to top the pond infront of the pool so no need for chlorine that I dislike.  The water from the pool drains into the pond.  Took a few days to build and just finished.

Agreed. They made a swimming pool (and gym room) after completing my muban in 2011; only problem is that it was only 1.4 m deep - all over... Hence, the only people who use it are children. There is also a toddler's pool at one end which is divided by a tiled wall.

About the slope: as I said ours goes from 1.4 (or 1.2 can't remember) to 2 m in steps, not continuous slope. 1.4m for 3 m, gradual slope for 3m, then 2m deep for approx 3m. Need a flat surface for aquaaeroblics or exercising.

Also I thought it safer to have stepped pool floor.

The thing I didn't like about an overflow pool is you need a big water sump that frogs would probably love. We get some large frogs in our water drain pipes but they don't last too long as their amplified croaks brings the snakes in for a feed. 🙂

 

Also think about going solar if only for the pool, then you can also include solar pool water heater panels and pump.

Do you have any pump and filter system or do you just rely on regular water replacement to keep water clean and clear?… Is the cold well water comfortable enough to use right out of  the ground?…

lift your pool idea up a notch ....

Ours at the old house (Udon Thani) was 2+ meters, purposely build so I could tread water, as the perfect no impact aerobic work out, when having a not so good back.   Easy on the ol' hips, knees and ankles.

 

Much smaller pool though, and only 3m X 5m, split half 2+m, and <2m.   Cost was silly inexpensive, 75k baht, and done by our waterfall guy.   His first ever pool install.  Did need 2 tweaks, as he underestimated the weight of that much water.  Less than 5k baht for the tweak.

 

Just a therapy pool, and built in bench seating, for chilling out.

 

Did not have a built in pump/filter system, and basic stand along, above ground pool filter was more than sufficient, bought separately.

 

If you live northerly, then it will be too cool to swim in, due to overnight temps, during a good part of the year.  

 

Obviously too small a pool if planning on doing laps or larger family.  Just the 2 of us, self & wife, as daughter never planned on using.  Wife rarely did, and why no pool at present house.

@kwak250 Our pool was concrete pour (quite exciting really. Shutter boards only moved in 1 area and a small amount of concrete escaped outside the pool. Operator error vibrated the wrong part during pour).

In-between the pour and Kerra tiles laid I decided to build a roof over the shallow end. You really need some pool shade.

No need for a filter in my case because of the size.  This is one of the reasons I went small.  What mattered was creating a place to cool off ( no need to swim 🙂 ) with nice surrounding after exiting my exercise pain cave 🙂  It has a nice view of the big pond infront while sitting or standing.  Also no need for a scimmer because I created a negative edge that drains into the pond so no top dust, dirt or leaves. 

 

The ground water is fine but I let it run for 5 minutes before directing it to the pool so the water is completely clear.  The ground water stays around 29c all year.  This year has been the coldest in 20 years the last month (usually hot) in my part of Thailand so the water is about 26c after a day if I don't change the water. I could dump my Ice freezer into it to drop it a few degrees if it gets hot which is another advantage to going small.  Already do this for my ice bath. The house is powered by solar so electricity isn't a concern.

On laptop ... saved, opened with 'window photo viewer', click on 90°  arrow 2X, then copied & pasted.  Deleted photo afterwards.

My concern is keeping the pool cool as go to so many resorts where the water is too hot.

Not sure I would ever want to heat it ,maybe for a week or 2 in the cold season.

This looks great and shade is a must i expect it will be like a hot bath most of the year

No.

The deep end is 4x3x2 approx and pool looses heat over night, so the lower water is cool.

Pump mixes that water up, so only the shallow end is warm. It's not cold but OK.

I bet that's perfect ,

I meant without the shade it would be hot.

Think I need to do at least 1.8m to stop it getting too hot

It's really to stop the sun if you want to go in for a splash or drunken beer with your friends.

We just finished renovating this pool and finish is Cool Blue PebbleCrete.

10 x 4 x 1.5 constant, skimmer system.

Looks very nice.

Almost the same siize as what we are going to build.

Do you think the overflow style is worth the extra $$$?.

That comes down to personnal choice. Overflow to some look better.

You can now get top up vavles for skimmer systems. 

This was the main advantage of overflow systems.

They had the float valve in the balance tank that topped up the pool water.

If one is concerned about price, I think the primary concern of any capital investment should be the maintenance costs. Much like a wife...

Not so much concerned but always good to get a fair price to build
Maintenance will always be needed so anyone building a pool will be aware of that

That is not what I meant. My financial situation is such that I am always concerned about what I spend. What I am saying, is that I think some pools and associated equipment are cheaper and easier to maintain than others. Paying more initially for a pool that will be significantly cheaper and or easier to maintain in the future may be a worthwhile investment. Do your homework. 

 

I would also much rather spend the extra dough to get what I want, than spend the next twenty years wishing I had. I am not a fan of the way overflow pools look, but If I was, I would spend the extra dough to get what I want.
