Americans will get stupider by not reading. Waterstones halting deliveries of books. Most here don't read books though.

Farmers in  America will be watching their crops rot now, after CNH Industrial halted shipments from North American and imports from Europe. And they are laying off people at their Wisconsin plant.

Cue some MAGA Know-it-All Cult member to spin made up some anecdote about  a brother/sister/cousin, and declare them to a be a POS companies, so won't be missed. Some other eejit will be furiously fact checking with Chat GPT etc.

The incompetant Whitehouse has some members declaring the tariffs are permanent. Others saying they are up for negotiation. Meanwhile as a result, business doesn't know what tariffs they will be paying in 1 week/1 month. 6 months /12 months. Do these eejits seriously think companies are going to take serious investment decisions to relocate plants, somehow recruit a workforce for a competitive rate when US unemployment is 4%, when they don't know what's happening from one week to the next.

For cars, tariffs are not a sales tax; they are paid for when the product is imported. Customers like short lead times, getting a car from stock, rather than waiting for it to be built for the. Distributors pay the tariffs, and they employ thousands of Americans. Importers will hold 3 months stock typically. For a I-pace, they'll pay the 10% tariff. For a Defender, they'll pay 20% now. But next week the 47th President might suddenly declare a deal to lower tariffs. He won't be giving that 10%, 20% etc whatever paid back. Or worse, he/she might double tariffs again, because he's a dozy sod or advised by idiots.

Aircraft parts makers source stock aluminium, stainless steel, titanium and specific alloys from supplier based on grade and specification, not based on where they are. Now they can't provide an accurate quote to customers because they are buying the material, they are paying the tariff.
