Is why retirement is usually the killer in people their life, they are so used to be a modern slave they never realized they didn't have any real life other than that. To then add on top meager pensions they live on.

Might surprise you but there are people who make enough money to have an enjoyable life while working and when retired.

This is the one I bought. Not top level but does the job with film and slide.

Very good and that ROUTINE suits you ... would it suit old Charlie living in a 21sqm room in Soi Bukhao?

Probably not

38 years at sea and offshore at times for 7 month stretch, my room were not any bigger.

You make your own routine.

Yes my mistake, your posts indicate your a 23yo male who has retired from the  SAS and now living the good life on the war pension

Thankyou for your service Sir , especially at your young age and the sacrifice you made .

One thing that fascinates me is when people mention the brand name of something like you mentioned ray bands ,I often wonder why you don't just say sunglasses ,

I noticed you also used Honda,I'm surprised you didn't use the brand name for the flip flops too ?

I guess you being only 23 your generation may be brand obsessed so instead of saying the product you say the brand name

I had a acquaintance years ago who used to say the brand name of everything rather than the product

He would say Pascal's instead of candy or his "camel " shirts instead of just a shirt

I will wear my camel today he says

I wonder what the fascinating subject brand names have in people's dialogue

And i-phone and i-pad instead of cell phone and tablet which seems to be the thing in fiction novels now. I think the authors get a kick back

If you mean 9am that sounds like something I could get into when the time comes. Exercise, bed, then get up in the afternoon some time to continue the day.

Got back into Australia Sunday and was at work by 10pm that night

I walked around my workplace that night smiling that I was back , waving to people who I didn't even know

I saw an African contract security guard his white teeth glistening in the dark with a wide  smile as I shouted "it's good to be back " !!

Of course I had never seen him before so he didn't have a clue what I was on about but he smiled neverless

But my point is , this week back in Australia I will have a "routine " something I didn't have in Thailand the last 5 weeks ,my work hours , sleep, all made into a routine

And thus that's where my study tour found......or should we say the "negative" of expats life

What was the fault ? NO ROUTINE

A Success in a expats life particularly living in PATTAYA of all places is ROUTINE

What happens without ROUTINE

You end up in a bar at 9am talking to Bob ,Reg ,Charlie drinking your problem away

You have all seen the bored expat particularly in Pattaya and dare  I say now.... CAMBODIA

Alcoholics because they lost their routine

Many went from routine in their Western country to nuthin

Many regret their decisions to move to Asia ,to Cambodia to Pattaya

Their life has no ....and please join me in saying this .....one two three .....their life has NO ROUTINE!!!

Best you stay in Oz by the sound of. it. For myself, living and working in many countries, and retired in Thailand since 1993, every day has a routine involving chores, exercise, occasional shopping, and, at 83 years of age, periods of relaxation late morning and early evening. Never bored.

GG brings up a good point. I think many here try to validate their lives by making it sound like it's filled with activities. Some of us here have decided to start a second family which keeps me relatively busy.

I can completely see how living single in a condo in Pattaya could lead to excessive drinking. I occasionally take the big bike on a ride to Pattaya for a few beers on Soi Bukhao, sit there at a beer bar watching the other foreigners scurrying about and think to myself how lucky I am to not have that kind of life. All the time wondering why I didn't just pack my ice chest and go to my local beach.

My weekdays always start with getting our adopted three-year old boy off to school.  Then we return and I play with his nearly two-year old brother, and think of the next thing to teach them both.

We're starting our house build later this month.

There is never a dull moment (I think my brain would atrophy if I spent all day on the beach or in bars but each to their own).

Yes well at that age you would have to get everything done as fast as possible and good on you for making 83 ,

Bars don't open at 9am in Australia. They also don't have attractive women in them that will date a 65yo dude. I know a rich old dude and even he dates ugly. It is impossible to date hot unless you are young and good looking or famous.

Or have a lot of money, as most couples who are lopsided. Most hot women look for money first, or at least second if there's some attraction at first. Seeing so many average to overweight men with hot women shows this. If you took money away and had everyone with the same amount, then we wuld see more balanced couples together, first because of mutual attraction, and then lasting because of compatibility.

Their life has no ....and please join me in saying this .....one two three .....their life has NO ROUTINE!!!

Almost everyone has a routine that works for them. The only ones that don't are the homeless, who rely on getting by anyway they can. When you retire, the routine that you had, besides waking up and going to work, stays with you. After working all of your life for someone else, now you can do whatever you want, at your speed, and I'm sure many are like me, waking up early, eating breakfast, then either going to the gym, working around the house, watching more TV, reading books, taking care of your young children if you have them, at least part of the time, spending time with your partner, going out to eat, then going to bed after watching some more TV together. All parts of a routine just adjusted because there isn't a 9 to 5 anymore.

I'm sure the people you see at bars at 9AM, talking to Bob, Reg, Charlie or georgegeorgia, are still in a routine. Then they'll go to the restroom to pee, and you'll follow them, which is part of your routine, to ask them what it's like being old and going to bars. Then you'll go outside, and wonder, why do all expats use walkers, when actually most don't, but that's still part of your routine.

You went to Thailand and was accosted by monkeys, and you went to the police to file a complaint, but since you couldn't pick out the monkey in a lineup, they couldn't press charges. Instead of doing a "study tour" when you visit other counties, try having a good time, stop being nosey, realize you yourself is getting older by the day, stop looking at all older expats as cripples, which they aren't, and spend more time doing things positive for others, and also yourself, and when you go back home, you'll have better memories while you're mopping those floors in paradise.

What utter rubbish.  You visit for a few weeks and complain you had no routine during your visit.  Of course you didn't--you were on vacation.  The whole point of a vacation is to get out of your routine.  Then, you add insult to injury by claiming that since you had no routine in Pattaya, nobody else does, either.

If you actually lived here year-round, rather than always just visiting, you would soon get into what is a normal routine for you, which would be different from how you spend your time on vacation.  For most expats living here year-round, their normal routine does not include hanging out at a bar at 9am.
