A shocking discovery was made on 9 April, in Phuket when a local man found a newborn baby boy with the umbilical cord still attached, abandoned in the back of his pickup truck.

The incident occurred in Soi Bangtao 12, Moo 2, Tambon Choeng Thale, Thalang District. Authorities from Choeng Thale Police Station were alerted after the man, who was preparing to drive to work, spotted the infant wrapped in a pink towel in the back of his silver Isuzu D-Max pickup.

The infant was still alive when discovered, and emergency responders from Choeng Thale Subdistrict Administrative Organisation quickly transported the baby to Thalang Hospital. The newborn was later transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further care.

Pol Lt Col Khajornkiat Kamwichairat, Deputy Inspector of Choeng Thale Police, confirmed the report and stated that a full investigation is underway to identify and locate the individual or individuals responsible for abandoning the child.

The car’s owner told police he had no idea how the baby ended up in his vehicle and was left stunned by the discovery. Police suspect the newborn may have been placed in the truck overnight or in the early hours of the morning before being noticed.

Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine the circumstances behind this distressing case.
