Why do YOU think the majority of Thai mask wearers do it? Not including staff, who have to.

you obviously are not in Bangkok nor the north nor northeast as the pollution is over the WHO recomendation almost daily.  and I am not sure I understand your comment about not having had any bad pollution as being unfortunate.

The air here is about 70.

Not too bad.

Last year was worse.

And, two years ago, we actually DID see bad pollution.

But this year, no, and not yet.

70 is not healthy air, almost double as a matter of fact but no problem for you for sure, as the Thai's say "be my guest, do as you want"

You must live in a rough part of the neighborhood. It happens.

Project much? In case you don't know the term, people see in other people their own worst qualities because they lack the self awareness and honest introspection that mature enlightened adults hav achieved. People like you come here and complain about things that nobody else has a problem with, including and especially seeing and interpreting human qualities. If Thai people don't respect you maybe it means YOU aren't worthy of their respect, maybe  YOU'RE the ɑsshole, not them. It certainly shows in your language. I certainly don't like you. So leave, surely there's some place in the world that measures up to your lofty expectations. Oh, but wait, no matter where you go you will complain, because, project much? We don't need sour attitude chronic complainers, we left them behind in our own countries. Be gone.

No worries.

It is healthy for around here in CM.

If you want extremely low particulates, then Thailand is not the place for you to find such a place.

Having lived in Bangkok since the late 1980s I can assure you that, prior to Covid, virtually no-one wore masks at any time. Seasonal mask wearing because of air pollution only started once people had access to smartphone apps warning about PM2.5 levels and even then, it was a very small minority that wore masks.

It is false to suggest otherwise. This is an image from 2016. Not a mask in sight.

Not sure where you live in bkk but quite a few were wearing masks well before covid especially during buying season.

I got news for you buddy. You are dying every day. Every single meal you eat causes inflammation in your body. There is no such thing as "completely safe" in this world. Or any other world.

If you want "completely safe" may be go live in a bubbble or something. But don't tell other people what to do, because you're clueless.

'

Just because you read a scientific paper on X does not make it so, there's another scientific paper saying the exact opposite. If you think you can trust scientists we'll end up like we did during the pandemic with the UK scientists in chief arguing for 7 months whether wearing masks makes any sense at all or not, locking everyone up and giving us totally false predictions. The last time we trusted scientists 7 trillion USD of wealth was destroyed because of the common cold. So STFU about masks, if you want to go out wearing a  mask be my guest, but don't tell other people what to do. We will be just fine without your sage advice and paranoia about little tiny particles in the air.

Nobody tells me to wear a mask ever again.

If you read my notes, you will see that I always tell folks that it is their choice to do or not to do.  This is an "opinion forum" and just like you, I have an opinion and I usually say IMHO but that should be understood on this forum.  You don't have to get all upset, as I never told you that you HAD to wear a mask.  You seem like a lot of other folks on this forum that think it is for you only, but again, it is an opinion forum and opinions are just like <deleted>, everyone has one.  sorry if you misinterpret my comments.

It has always been customary in Asia to wear a mask if suffering from a cold, and also common to use them during times of air pollution. Well before COVID.

Japan yes but here people sneeze and cough everywhere. Even during covid I couldn't say how many times I saw Thais pulling their masks down to sneeze.

Day job scientists but also mere actors playing a part in a much larger theatrical performance.

The fact that severe psychological damage was inflicted on countless numbers of children and young students and millions of small businesses were destroyed is telling isn't it.

Never a straight answer on the masks by the way.

Symbolically masks respresent a silencing of individual voice, of opinion.

Another brick in the wall so to speak...

Well, when the UK's finest started arguing in Cobra on whether wearing masks actually confers any benefit I knew we were in trouble. They didn't even know that. Conflicting studies, sorry. Marginal benefit. Maybe. Possibly in closed spaces. Maybe not. Conflicting studies sorry.

They did their best, Neil Ferguson and his crack team. Sadly it wasn't good enough. Predictions way off. Numbers way off. Sweden doing great. I'm sure they believed what they were saying. I'm sure they did their best. But it was just not good enough. Biggest failure of science in our lifetime. Stunning political abdication to clueless scientists. We all paid the bill.

Neil Ferguson

Was Ferguson the bloke lecturing all to stay home and mask up, meanwhile he was commuting across London to shag the axrse off some married bird?  😂

Perhaps I'm mixing up the players in the UK production...

Yes, he predicted Armaggedon, thereby conferring all power onto himself, which politicians like Boris Johnson kindly abdicated to him, and promptly mandated lockdowns.

Except for himself and his strumpet of course.

Okay, Presnock, I accept that. But the last time it was your opinion that supported a whole paranoia and orgy of wealth destruction and curtailing of personal freedoms that affected all of us.

As a 78-year old I claim to have forgotten any paranoia and wealth destruction, curtailling of personal freedoms so could you refresh my memory time frame was what year?
