April 16, 2025Apr 16 Turn it off when its done? I know the good ones keep it warm after the cooking is finished, don't know about yours. I never use them anyway. Just boil in water till done, drain the water off and let it rest. Less sticky.
April 16, 2025Apr 16 Are you rinsing your rice before cooking? Rinsing rice removes excess starch, which causes the rice stickiness.
April 16, 2025Apr 16 I cook on low and turn off once finished. Mine is only a 300 baht Otto rice cooker, sticking not an issue

This is crucial to steaming great rice. Also....I choose JASMINE, just because I like the smell of it. So, even a cheap rice cooker can cook great rice... But, you need to do a few things: a. rinse rice b. use the proper amount of water for the rice c. after rinsing rice, then add proper amount of water, and use COOL/ROOM-TEMP water, before turning on the power to the steamer. I have never cooked rice which stuck to the pot inside the rice cooker. Never Happens. ================ I have several rice steamers. My old Panasonic does perfect rice...EVERY TIME..... This one is good. BUT, this one is old. I bought another one of the same type and make, and it is not so good. The quality has deteriorated in recent years...IMHO. This machine is dusty because I prefer to use the older white one....below.... This steamer for rice is the best I have ever used. 10 years...and STILL going strong. The steamer with the black cover is much newer. But, the materials are not as good. The latch for the lid already broke...after just one year of use. So, try to buy the older ones....if....you can.... Hop into your time machine. Anyway, I do like the Panasonic steamers of this type.... And..... SMELL THE JASMINE....

I don't bother to wash my jasmine rice and it doesn't stick. It might be pre-washed as originally i washed it and no starch came off

However, the jasmine rice that I buy, and I do not buy the cheaper rice..... When I wash the rice, there is a lot of starch that I wash off. The water, during the first washing, turns completely white. After three washings, the water is clear. Then, I steam it. And it comes out FINE and NICE. I have been cooking rice for a very long time...more than four decades.

Additionally, I do one more step at the end, after the auto cut-off activates. Switch OFF the power, and keep the cooked rice in the cooker for about 30 minutes, without opening the cover. I do not use the 'keep warm' mode (which tends to make the rice stick to the bottom).
April 17, 2025Apr 17 I dont know what you are doing to cause it to stick, My wife always does the cooking and we just have some old rice cooker it never sticks I know because Im the one who usually washes it, whatever rice she buys she always washes it I see her do that.

I do exactly the same. This does make a positive difference. I NEVER keep the steamer turned on, after the steaming is completed. That would be foolish. Note: Yes. If one were to keep the steamer on warm, for any length of time, then the rice will stick to the bottom....in most cookers....I think. But, also, the texture and flavor of the rice changes, as well. Not sure why they have this KEEP WARM function...unless it is used for some other purpose besides steaming rice.
April 17, 2025Apr 17 wash rice well before cooking, always have remember my Mother did in the 50's if we had rice Also do not use to much water - will end up sticky No idea if sold here but when visiting the UK would buy Uncle Ben's cook in bag Rice, = easy + always light and fluffy Maybe try: How to cook rice in a microwave Jamie Oliver Place the rice in a 2-litre microwave-proof dish or bowl with 1 mug of water (300ml) and a pinch of sea salt and cover the bowl with a lid or a side plate. Cook in the microwave on a medium heat (400-500W) for 8 to 10 minutes (depending on the strength of your microwave), then remove and leave to steam with the lid on. he also shows fluffy rice in a pot How To Cook Perfect Fluffy Rice | Jamie Oliver - YouTube
April 17, 2025Apr 17 I have an Hitachi rice cooker where i can select the kind of rice I want to cook. In the inner pot there are also markings of how much water to add. The inner pot is teflon coated. I never have rice sticking to the pot or have to drain excess water

Yes, absolutely I had an Asian wife once and learned that if I did not rinse it, I was even a more disgusting fat horny foreigner than she thought (we were living in the USA, I was still a foreigner) That being said, she was a multi rinser. The "instructions" on the rice bag say rinse 1x. The cleaning lady says 1X. They wash it like they are washing clothes. I just swish it around a few times. Water: I use a supplied plastic cup of rice, then water to almost my first knuckle. On 4/17/2025 at 6:45 AM, ravip said: Additionally, I do one more step at the end, after the auto cut-off activates. Bingo. Im going to try that, once I get the verdict on the rinse. PS, my rice is always light and fluffy, its just sticky to the bottom
