Common Cooking Oil Ingredient Linked To Aggressive Breast Cancer

Research suggests linoleic acid, found in common cooking oils, may increase the risk of aggressive triple-negative breast cancer.

 

The study, conducted by Weill Cornell Medicine, revealed that linoleic acid may activate tumor growth by binding to the protein FABP5. In mice, a diet high in this omega-6 fatty acid enhanced tumor development. Published in Science, the findings point to linoleic acid's role in escalating tumour growth in triple-negative cells but not in hormone-sensitive types. This revelation could drive new dietary and pharmaceutical strategies.

Experts are urging caution with seed and vegetable oils like soybean and safflower, typically found in numerous food products. Linoleic acid also occurs in pork and eggs, adding to dietary concerns. The study paints a complex picture: while the overall breast cancer survival rate stands at 90%, triple-negative cases drop dramatically to 77%.

 

Dr John Blenis, a leading researcher, highlighted the importance of these findings in understanding dietary fats' impact on cancer. "This discovery provides clarity on the connection between diet and cancer," he said, emphasizing the need for personalized nutritional recommendations to inform patients' choices better.

Trying to be practical for most of us: Eat mostly your own cooked meals at home and cook with OLIVE oil (and best only with the high-quality  ie expensive brands).

Olive oil seems to be the healthiest , but very expensive here in Thailand.

And it has that typical taste.

Would you have preferred a 5 paragraph diatribe about how Big Ag (King Korn) and Big Pharma have been squelching this information for decades, wondering how many people have died because of it?

 

I also wonder how many people have died because fast food went from cooking their fries in animal fat to cooking them in vegetable oils.  Not just because of the oils, but also the other ingredients they had to add to make them palatable. All done under the guise of "healthier", but really not.  It was to make them cheaper and appease Big Ag.

Go to the food vendors in the streets in Thailand: they all use soybean oil. Why? It's cheap.

We've been listening to these types of food information for decades and people just don't want to listen, preferring taste to healthy choices. A healthy diet is a very easy thing to follow. Things that grow in the earth, meaning proven foods, are safe to eat. Animal products are also safe in moderate amounts, especially fish. 

 

The best evidence on living a healthy life is, and always will be, the blue zone diets. These people have been living the longest for a long period, and their diets are healthy and feature vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruits and grains, with a moderate amount of fish and meat. 

 

No diet besides this type of lifestyle works healthy for any amount of time. fads work because they starve the body in some way, and should only be temporary, as deficiencies come from most of them eventually. Oils, especially olive, are healthy choices but heating anything up to a high temperature causes changes, and some of them are harmful.

I am afraid just about everything we eat ,has some problems with it ,almost

certainly has plastic in it , dangerous chemicals in small amounts that build

up overtime in your body , if we knew the way  that food is produced  we

would not eat anything ,

You may want to read studies with humans, and randomized, not observational.  Studies that showed Canola oil was a bit healthier on the liver, human liver, than both Olive oil & Ghee.

 

Which I've linked before on other threads.  But hey, one more time won't hurt, but surely won't stop the false narrative that all seed oils are bad.

I have never found good extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) in Thailand. Good oil must state, on the bottle, first cold pressed,  the harvest date, and the country of origin of the olives, and preferably also the region. The best ones will actually state the polyphenols in the oil. There are lots of reports that EVOO is often mixed with other oils. Checkout reports on youtube. Buyer beware!

Perhaps it depends on where you live. I can pick up iI Casolare at TOPS, together with various other PDO Extra Virgin Olive Oils.

Yes the bottle I bought at Makro did not taste the same as in europe.

I think they mixed some other oil with it. Viscosity was different too. Can't prove it of course.

Hard to say. If you do a search , you get all kinds of answers.

Only olive oil seems consistently on or near the top.

 

I thought sunflower oil was ok , always used it for french fries, but it isn't.

Palm oil that they use here in Thailand , is one of the worst.

I don't even want it in my car, but you know 7 % diesel is everywhere.

That must have been put out by big pharma.

 

Well known how oxidation of cells & sugar play a role in feeding cancer cells, and starving them seems to be a much better way to control & shrink them down, even disappear, than what big pharma pushes.   At least shrink them down to the point surgery may actually work.

I too have bought olive oil from Makro, Tops, Villa, Big C and other stores, always buying only extra virgin olive oil, and cold pressed or cold extracted, most times buying the most expensive. I wonder if any of the supermarkets or stores test the products that they put on  their shelves? I have never found an olive oil in Thailand that tastes like the real good olive oil.

 

I highly recommend everybody using olive oil watch this video or just google fake olive oil.

I stopped consuming it.

I'm guessing I can get decent fats elsewhere and have decided to cut my losses with this olive oil madness.
