A road crash occurred on the morning of 18 April, in Rayong province when a ten-wheeled truck reportedly suffered brake failure and crashed with a white Isuzu songthaew, injuring nine people.

The incident took place at approximately 09:00, at the Tamnan Pa intersection on Sukhumvit Road in the Pae Subdistrict of Mueang Rayong District. Upon arrival, police from Pae Police Station discovered both vehicles damaged, the ten-wheeler had sustained damage to its side, while the front of the songthaew was damaged from the force of the collision.

Rescue personnel and paramedics were quickly on the scene, administering first aid to the nine injured individuals, eight passengers and the driver of the songthaew, before transporting them to Rayong Hospital.

According to Mr. Tiwa, 61, the songthaew driver, he was travelling the regular Kleng Pier–Rayong route with eight passengers onboard. As he approached the intersection, the ten-wheeler suddenly surged out from the side road at speed, leaving him no time to brake. The collision caused his vehicle to a sudden halt, throwing passengers around the rear compartment. “Luckily, there was no vehicle directly behind us. It could have been much worse,” he said.

The truck driver, who was unharmed, told police that his brakes had malfunctioned despite having recently undergone repairs. He claimed he was unable to stop in time as the vehicle sped forward uncontrollably into the intersection.

CCTV footage from the area confirmed the truck’s abrupt and unbraked entry into the intersection. Police have collected the footage as evidence and took the truck driver into custody for further questioning. Legal proceedings are expected to follow as the investigation continues.
