I'm no expert but when I hear "selling backlinks" I'm thinking you're helping spammy websites with garbage content beat the search engines. Fair play, it's money in the bank.

That could be a thing, but I mostly work towards quality websites, as the spammy ones are too hard to handle.

No, I have already explained the countries I work towards. How can you ask such question? Like I said, I am happy

I meant in the restaurant, the ones that say you're happy.

I seriously doubt pushing a mop is a desired skill in the digital nomad world.

Offices usually do have cleaning staff that keeps the place tidy, but when you're living the van life monadist lifestyle, it’s all about handling your own maintenance. Keeping your workspace clean and dry is key—just as it is in any nomadic lifestyle, from slownomadism to speedonomadism.

I worked back in the early 2000s in Thailand but the money wasn't right and I was in the best company for the job I do. I therefore moved on to the Middle East and made a good living. I did love the idea of a digital nomad life but it seemed to be IT guys. Since covid thats changed. I came on holiday from the UK and did two months still working for my company in London and nobody knew anything different. At some point I will return to this as it's great but we now have to turn up 1/2 times a week in the office now sadly!.

I should add I get 300 UK a day so was just working to UK hours. I was pretty unmonitored however now much more accountable. Its a TV role editing.

Some people actually  do work remotely and profitably.  Some proof read periodicals as referees or reviewers.  Some submit articles for publication in various journals.  I exclude the so called influencers as I think that is so presumptious and I look at none of them, but they may count.  Some do online teaching of various subjects or even tutor.  I myself have multiple technical degrees, BS engineering and MS in Math and when I stop my contracting work I can see me doing about 10 hours of tutoring every week to keep my mind active, make a little extra money, etc.  I go by the book with the IRA (USA Citizen).  I loath the attempt by Thailand to make visitors of over 180 taxable residents and that guarantees I will not stay that long in country in any given year.

Even your reply here suggests a fair amount of unhappiness.

I have to agree with you.  The manner of his replies suggest an angry, impatient and stressed man.

Having lots of money won't stop you dying young of a heart attack due to work stress and lack of 'inner peace'.

Yes, I think it's wise that you are scared.

I have stopped working and I am going a bit crazy.

And I do not want to sit in bars.

Yes !!!

My greatest fear is retiring from my job and living in a 21sqm box in Jomtien going crazy everyday ..  doing what all day ???

I should of took a video of being assaulted in Lopburi and the failed subsequent police investigation who didn't seem to be effective and I won't go into that except after I called my local Member of Parliament in Sydney Australia, the Lopburi police finally sent a car to that temple to look for the offender , which apparently failed , according to them !

To me "digital nomad" sounds like an a travelling anal self fingering type; so if you are into that sort of thing.

That's 15K per day.  How the hell do you make that?

I used to pay 1200 to 1500 Swiss Francs a day  to IT developers. Those based in HCMC were paid 450. That was between 2008 and 2015.

Oh, first, it´s rather new. I would say it´s a split between 35-40% foreigners and 60-65% Thais. But, does that really matter? Do you see foreigners opinions superior over Thais? Now remember that you are the guest in the country.

So how much does the shop and restaurant bring in?  And you can run these as well as all this online stuff?

As an old chef and owner of multiple restaurants and a night club in Sweden and Norway, I have been teaching my wife to run the shop and restaurant. Why would I be the one who runs everything, when there are teachable and competent Thai people who can manage very well? Of course, I am supervising, as it sometimes can go awry. 😉

I would say it generates a profit of about 55-70k baht for my wife each month after costs and salaries have been paid. Something that means she is self sufficient today, and do not have to depend on me and my money. The split in profit between the shop and restaurant is today about 45/55 in percentage. However, the restaurant is only 4-5 month in, so I expect that to grow as well. I give it about 1 year, and then I expect her profit to be 100k baht per month.

It’s not often that someone so successful and well off divulges so much of their financial situation.

That’s because it”s rather gauche.

At least you can afford some anger management therapy.

Not to worry! You need advice? I can help you.

I am not angry at all. Where do you get that from?

I was asked straight questions, and I gave straight answers

Ok, I’ll bite…

Originally, and the “truest” form of being a digital nomad is someone that travels enough so they don’t become tax resident in any country.

The term has been loosened more recently to include anyone that works remotely while travelling.

I pay corporation tax and personal tax in the UK but can work anywhere so fit the second definition but not the first.

To address some other misconceptions by other posters:

  • Not all digital nomads are cheap. I charge my clients over £1000 a day i.e. equivalent of over 40,000baht a day so don’t work very much but can spend what I want.
  • Not all digital nomads are “influencers” walking around with cameras. Other types include consultants (me), traders (shares, commodities, currencies), software engineers, etc.
  • Not all digital nomads have never had a proper job. I worked full time for over 20 years in a number of major international companies before I’d built up the experience, contacts and financial security to set up my own business.

Please use white text not black. Too difficult for us old nomads to read. Thanks

Oooh, changed from dark to light mode. Much better now. Sorry.

I shouldn't have to put up with such disgusting posts , I have recently just got over being viciously assaulted by a raving animal lunatic in Lopburi

A digital nomad is either a dude with a remote job, or some poverty stricken backpacker that doesnt want to confess what a loser he is.
