How about a new topic on why bathroom floors are slippery from day one?

No need.

My bathroom floors are NOT slippery, in the least.

Just choose the right floor tiling for your bathroom.

Quite easy.

You can find the tiles you need, the safe tiles, almost anywhere in Thailand.

Note:  But, please do not go to China.  In China, they use that faux-marble tiling almost everywhere.

The tiles they use is even more slippery than ice, close to its melting point.

I guess we should test the friction coefficient for tiles in China and Thailand, to make a fair comparison.

But, based on my experience, in China, they are slipperier....

And, the Commies are the Slipperiest, for sure....

Dear Folks,

Having just watched someone put up a new roof, somewhere in Thailand:

a. The homeowner chose BLACK…JET BLACK for the exterior covering of a corrugated roof for a very large sun awning.  I mean…a HUGE awning connected to his house.

b. Why choose BLACK, JET BLACK?

c. Does he think this color might be “COOL”?

d. I do agree that the STONES are COOL, and the Tune is VERY COOL.

e. But, to paint a roof black in Thailand…Is this cool? Or, is this idiocy?

What are the construction workers thinking, too?

Are they not aware of the radiation absorption PROPERTIES of a…

BLACK BODY IN SPACE, for example?

When we talk about BLACK BODIES, and BLACK BODY RADIATION, I guess you all know what I am talking about.  But, do the workers here, who are working on this big project, understand?  Have they not even studied Year One Astronomy at MIT, for example?

All MIT courses are available on the net, and for free.

Any excuses for not having watched the Physics courses on MIT's great website, before putting up a black roof?

This just boggles my mind.

AND...What about the HEAT-ISLAND Effect, around the black roof?

What about THAT????

Ignorance is Bliss, as they say…until..it becomes the ….

HOT SEASON, in Thailand.

Best regards,

Gamma

Why you may ask, I presume that they think that the roof will be covered with black mold in a few years , don't have to clean the roof and paint the roof then , it's already black.

This is just IDIOCY, then.

Because, if they were worried about that...then....

Just spray on a bit of copper sulfate, once a year, or once every two years.

BUT, obviously, they just love the color JET BLACK, and NOT nut-brown.

Most roofs around these parts do not have this problem, anyway.

So, your presumption seems false, in this case.

It's too hot for me. All my buildings have black roofs, which leak and make the top floor very hot.

You should, seriously, think about hiring a few workers to paint your roofs...WHITE.

The paint is available.

You just need the will.

You will save due to less thermal energy transmission from the sun to inside your houses/buildings.

The energy savings can be substantial.

Why me? you started this and you  said that you seen it.

End of  replies.

I would not want to be so confrontational as to ask a home-owner why he chose JET BLACK to paint his roof.

If you want to build a solar hot-water heater, then paint it black.

But, this is not what the guy was building.

OP made it clear that the black structure was an awning.  Not a house.

Except for the roof material itself, the space underneath, if it truly is fully open to the outdoors, will be the ambient temperature.  Painting it a lighter color would make no difference in the daytime.

Caveat:  heat release from the heat stored in the roof material at night might be objectionable. I would hope the neighbor used a "sandwich" form of insulated steel.

It would be just wonderful having a black, very high-temperature, very large, radiator connected directly to one's house, just under several windows which are used to ventilate the house.

And, by the way, what temperature would you say black metal sheeting might reach under direct sunlight in Thailand.

And, what about the mass of the steel?

And, how many hours will it require to cool down this mass in the evenings?

And then, you go your radiant heat underneath this massive black radiator.

So, if you want to paint it black, then go ahead.

Why would workers installing roofs have ever studied astronomy? And what is this nonsense about black bodies in space, who are they, ejected astronauts? Please tell me what you are smoking today Gamma.

The roof is not a celestial object and roofers do not study astronamy. What is wroing with you apart from an outstanding ability to consume more drugs than anyone else on this earth?

Using this information, we can calculate how much radiation will be absorbed and reflected from a roof of any stated color.

We are mostly concerned with thermal radiation absorbed by the black roof.

Also, an ideal black-body of color Jet Back will radiate heat very efficiently....at night for example.

I agree on the black heat absorption reasoning and that is very well known. But, you haven't calculated one iota of <deleted>e, black space bodies, celestial nonsense and roofers not having attended astronomy classes are all a bit of a stretch, would you not concur?

So then, it has the same functionality as an electric fence for containment of livestock within the paddock?

The horse doesn't like his paddock that I spent loads of money on he loves running around the house and up the road. What's a racehorse always a racehorse.
