Are Trump's intentions positive, or is he just unhinged?

There's already been so much damage to the economy and he has already created so much uncertainty when it comes to relationships with allies, worldwide trade and what appears to be a continued diminishment of American relevance around the world. 

 

Now it would appear that he is declaring war on the Fed, so is he acting in a sincere manner, and does he honestly believe that what he's doing is going to have a long-term benefit on the economy? Or is this man just completely unhinged, and unable to control himself, and  does he feel a constant need to lash out at anybody that he does not perceive as a friend and ally, or anyone who is not expressing sufficient fealty? It seems like every day he picks a new fight. 

 

President Donald Trump on Monday ratcheted up his pressure campaign on Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, calling him a “major loser” and warning that the U.S. economy could slow down unless interest rates are lowered immediately.

″‘Preemptive Cuts’ in Interest Rates are being called for by many,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

 

Trump (falsely) claimed that there is currently “virtually no inflation” in the U.S., and that costs for energy and “most other ‘things’” are on the decline. “With these costs trending so nicely downward, just what I predicted they would do, there can almost be no inflation, but there can be a SLOWING of the economy unless Mr. Too Late, a major loser, lowers interest rates, NOW,” Trump wrote.

Trump’s latest salvo against Powell — whom he appointed during his first administration — came as the president and his team are studying whether they can legally fire the central bank leader before his term expires in May 2026. Powell has flatly stated that the president cannot remove him under the law.

 

Any attempt by Trump to fire Powell would likely trigger a steep sell off in U.S. equity markets, Evercore ISI’s vice chairman, Krishna Guha, told CNBC on Monday.

 

“If you start to raise questions about Federal Reserve independence, you are raising the bar for the Federal Reserve to cut. If you actually did try to remove the Federal Reserve chairman, I think you would see a severe reaction in markets with yields higher, dollars lower and equities selling off,” Guha said on “Squawk Box. "I can’t believe that that’s what the administration is trying to achieve,” Guha said.

 

I realize that billionaires in general tend to be very much out of touch with the concerns that we normal people have, but this man seems to be detached from reality to such an extreme extent, that it would appear (from my point of view) to make him a very unstable leader, which makes the world a far less stable place.

No, he is just following what has worked for republican and democratic administrations since the 2008 financial crisis.  It will probably work again. Powel doesn't want to play along like he has done in the past and that is upsetting Trump.  Flood the system with liquidity so home values and stocks go up.  At some point it will end terribly but I've been saying this since 2012 so even I'm starting think maybe it is as easy  as throwing money from helicopters and spend baby spend.

Money printing in overdrive to pay people staying at home , not all working from home. Service industry stopped. Aviation stopped ,....

Shops/malls/restaurants closed. Still we got out of it.

 

What Trump is trying to to is much more positive than the covid war.

We'll get a slightly better world if he succeeds , less wate , less spending , less debt.

Sure. Barr was castigated by a Federal judge for lying about the Mueller report by denying that there was anything in it that warranted prosecution. For that he was celebrated by right wingers. It was only after he refused to back Trump in his election denialism that he became a villain to right wingers.

absolutely true in every aspect IMHO  I listen to a lot of news clips daily especially those about the US economy.  These trusted professors in prestigious universities, former economic advisors to senior leadersll all call his tariff plan crazy, idiotic, his former economic professor said Trump would get an "F" if he said that in class.  Now that he is after the Fed chief, I am hearing that Trump is "utterly insane"  off his rocker, not a clue to what drives an economy in the world of today.  I hear no one other than his appointed economy people and they just mouth whatever he is saying.  For sure, unless nature says his time is up, we might be doomed - at least the economy will be and who knows how long it will take for any confidence in the US be restored if ever.

There's so many different things that he's done and that he's likely to do that its actually become boring. The UK News programmes have been totally consumed by his antics and policy making (or unmaking) for the last 4 months - its been like a daily comedy show but its a show that I now turn off.

 

He can get on with his stupidity for all I'm concerned, I'm sick of hearing his name.  However, there are 2 areas where I remain angry at his stance and one of them is a problem for all of us.

 

The man who said Covid might kill 90-100,000 people in the USA (now almost 1.2 million) and suggested that bleach might offer a cure - has taken the USA out of the Paris Accord and is trying to introduce policies that harm the environment -  once again Trump knows better than the scientists. What he's doing could very easily take the planet past one of the 'tipping points' the scientists have been warning about. The same man said he would stop the war in Ukraine within 24 hours - to the best of my knowledge its still raging.

 

And before any of you climate change deniers get on your soapboxes - go sit in a room, light a coal fire with no chimney and smoke 40 fags a day - see how long you live.  It doesn't take Einstein to tell you that what humans have done to the Earth's atmosphere since 1750 is totally unsustainable. We've also done a lot of other damage but the atmosphere is the most pressing.

 

I actually hope the US economy goes down the pan - yes it will also do severe harm worldwide but if it makes his MAGA supporters realise what a deluded, lying lunatic he really is - maybe the world won't have a similar problem in the future.

One thing is certain. He is accomplishing very little, he will NOT bring manufacturing back to America, which is stupid over priced (I am here now and inflation is raging at 20% or higher right now), he is causing alot of pain, he is losing support, destroying businesses, and consumer confidence, he does not have a coherent plan, and he is a destructive nimwit. 

 

I don’t think he has a coherent value structure as most of us understand it. I think we’re seeing a president who’s operating without anything any of us would recognize as a conscience. Truly.

 

It is about showing what he can get away with. It’s about showing his enemies that what they support, he can tear down. It is all about displays of brute strength. He gets off on that, and in that sense, it seems not so much an autocracy but a flexocracy. Let me show you how I can flex my bicep as I use it to power my fist coming into your face.

 

It’s not about any coherent values. It’s not about any North Star. It’s about showing that you can turn the boat 180 degrees around and that you can do whatever you want and you can bring the people who opposed you to their knees.

 

Trump’s idea of power. If I can destroy, if I can defile and march on relatively unscathed and unpunished, that makes me powerful. Other people can’t get away with it, but that’s how dominant and superior I am.
