It must be great living in your little bubble. The opposit is true. Thai citizens have far more rights abroad in America, UK and Europe than expats have in Thailand.  Owning land, buying houses and even owning 100% of a company, no 90 day reporting and no annual re apply. Oh and the big one "no immediate changing of immigration rules that some half daft general or zenaphobic politician decides.

Good, if it works for all (including foreigners). Sadly, Thailand and technology have typically had a rocky relationship. I for one have done 2 renewals and never taken a written test (just the physical test, and watched videos). But would welcome not having to go to DLT at all.

I got a 2 year licence , because I live 1/2 the year in aus, & usually apply holding a 2monthvisa, I heard if you have an AO 3 mth visa, can get 5 year licence , is that right ?

When over 70 in UK, you must apply for a new licence and tick a couple of boxes confirming that you are of good health, and can read a number plate, with specs if needed, at 20 paces, every five years. No Doctor's examination required.

I wonder if anyone applying for that licence has ever answered NO to either of those questions.

Looking at the OP picture, and my own Thai licence and ID card, why do the photos include the upper half of your body.

A passport photo is only the face and minimum shoulders.

When renewing digitally, will you be able to send a selfie from your phone?

Renewed my bike and car license a few months ago and although i only spent 45 mins in DLT plus 40 mins travel, it's all the other bits that also take time.

Photos and photocopies of everything for Immigration and DLT over 1 hour, online video 1 hour, medical cert 50 mins, residency certs 1 1/2 hours including travel time, an hour online making sure i had all relevant documents and certs.

I'm not far from anything i needed but i can imagine how much aggro and time it takes for some people to collect all the required doc's and certs to renew.

Turning up at DLT was the easy part for me.

I'm a 3 month visitor, 2 month SETV and 30 day extension, and mine was the second 5 year licence i received.

I do have a home in Thailand though.

Yes, If you have a non immigrant visa you can renew from 2yrs to 5.

Agreed, but it ties you and the staff at the driving licence centre up for a whole day. My last 5 year renewal I spent the morning assing about at one building, then the afternoon beggaring about at another. It's a bureaucratic nightmare really, even though us clever lads never found the process itself "difficult". I'd much prefer to do it from the comfort of my own home as long as they don't mess it up like the online 90 day. Yes I know that a lot of people have never found that process difficult, nor for several years had I, until I started getting refusals and I've had to go to Jomtien in person to do the last three or four.

Renewal was very easy but you had to watch a YouTube video for 20 minutes. 

This will make a lot easier for the blind to get their license again.

My 5 year renewal at Ayutthaya DLT was pretty easy, went and made a booking 2 weeks in advance, 1.30 pm i think it was.

Had the online video pass proof on my phone.

Watched a short video explaining the process then entered the room with around 7 other people, 1 lady controlled all the tests and stamped the paperwork without leaving her seat, very impressive !

Then downstairs for the photos and the finished license , all done in around 45 minutes to an hour i think with some waiting around before and after the photos.

 

The previous renewal was a shambles, no order and very little indication of where to go or what to do next.

I believe some IO’s will accept the yellow book or pink id as residence proof, not 100% sure of that .

Quite likely, but only because it will be tied to the Thai ID card, whereas we will still need to provide one of the 'proof of address' methods (CoR, Letter of Address, or Yellow Book where accepted)....

 

But, the added bonus for foreigners, even IF this is not available to us, is less queues at the DLT while most others renew online...   IF the do, that is.

 

 

When we renewed our Sons passport - we booked an online appointment and turned up at the allotted time... waited a few mins and were being processed. Meanwhile 100's of others were in a long queue as they had not made their online appointments - So it seems that many, still do not adapt to these 'convenient' online measures.

Well the way I see it is that if it is just for Thai citizens it will reduce the queue numbers so that'll be a plus...not that I had any trouble last November but then I didn't use the main office in the province.

I went to renew my   Thai license in pattaya in November ,, done it before 6 times over last 24 years , so thought it would be a breeze.... er NO    ..total nightmare   ,, got run around, refused , bribe demanded ,, get another, medical,, blah blah   got another medical,,  then immigration letter now out of time,,,,  blah blah  ,,,gave up  and using my EU licence ....

May not be difficult to renew but the 500 Baht for the letter from Immigration is BS.  New way to make money for the top at Immigration and where you renew.  They will want to keep this.

This office (Bangchak) did similar for me last year. Went early April and they gave told me at least 4 weeks for appointment. Told them I was going overseas for the summer and wouldn't be back until November. Gave me an appointment for November which they honoured. Had to do the medical and watch ther videos again but that's easy. Very helpful office. Was done in 90 minutes. It is a small office and can be quite crowded. They also accepted my Yellow book as proof of residence.

Would love it if online renewal really became a thing for all licence holders.

I think the same. In Chonburi foreigners can not even book an appointment on line

 

Its the same at DLT Area 3 in Bangkok - I was unable to book an appointment (getting an IDP), Wife was able to book an appointment. 

When we turned up, she went into her 'short appointment line'.

The other line was huge (100+ people in it) - this was going to be a long day for me !

 

The DLT officer pointed me to a line for foreigners (because appointments can't be made) - thus, while not being able to make an appointment, a concession was made in my (the foreigners) favour and I was in and out quite quickly.

 

Its not all anti-foreigner / its not as if they deliberately do not add the foreigner bookings.. its not added for a reason and usually something related to ID numbers etc.
