Dear Folks,

When truly in love, most people love to touch when they walk.

In fact, when in love, how can any couple help from touching….

When they walk?

Normally, you might wish to touch when you walk.

However, in Thailand, touching while walking is not acceptable.

We know why, of course.

And so, the question is:

Do you abide by local social norms?

And, do you avoid touching when you walk?

(Personally speaking….Yes.  I do avoid touching when I walk. I try to fit in here, and I accept social norms.)

Or, as the old song goes:

Would you love to touch Roxanne when you walk?

Assuming there actually WERE a Roxanne in Thailand?

Maybe it is OK in some tourist areas to touch when walking.

But, I think it might NOT be OK in other areas of Thailand.

Sometimes, I feel like squeezing, pinching, even goosing,...and not just touching.

But, I never do.

Not even playfully.

However…

Do you?

Best regards,

Gamma

Note: Roxanne will ALWAYS be my friend….forever.....

Me and my girlfriend do not walk around the streets romantically.

Out and about, when crossing the road I hold her hand, or around her waist moving her forward.

When we're together we are usually sat in the car or restaurant eating.

Out shopping she is most times holding my hand dragging me around from shop to shop, same at Thepprasit market, I'm getting dragged around.

I remember Loy Krathong, we went down to Ban Amphur, on the beach, 1000's of people, she held my hand so she wouldn't lose me in the crowd.

Total BS. How did you even come to that incorrect assumption?

If you see a couple touching while walking, then you are not looking at a Thai couple.

Could be Chinese young people, or some very OLD Farang dude with his significant other from Pattaya.

Sometimes can hold hand because im afraid another lady take contact who they don't know about.

I was in a massage in Bangkok and had a happy ending. The next day me and my ex passed this massage and i hold the hand of her.Just to make sure the massagelady didn't talk to me.And she didn't..just smiled.

Anyway now im single so i can do whatever i want without no stress.

Still BS. I see locals touching all the time in public. Holding hands, arm around the waist or shoulder when walking. Sometimes touching the head.

You are deluded and have now moved onto making up more BS to support your initial delusions.

Friend saw an old American and his similarly aged wife get out of a boat at Phi Phi. He was grasping her arm. Two old fishermen on the beach. One sighed and said, "So old, but she can still sell herself."

True story.

You can say what you like.

Until I see your evidence, what you are saying is merely unsubstantiated talk.

You need to state the location where all this touching takes place, as well.

Yes, of course, there is much touching going on in Pattaya on certain wellknown sois.

Everybody already knows this.

I abide, but my wife doesn't ........

Day after we married we're walking through her rural village near LomSak, and she's squeezing against me with her arm around me. I see some locals looking at us and mention, Should we be doing this? Her reply, If they don't like it F@#$ 'em.

A year or two later we're staying at her brothers house (Nan), and wife decides to sit on my lap.

SIL shouts, we don't behave like that in our house! Wife shouts back, we don't have to stay here.

And I'm dragged away to stay at her aunties house.

Out here in the sticks of Phichit/Phitsanulok our local town Sak Lek is a busy main road, Route 11, Madam always grabs my arm if we cross the road, only other times are in the shopping malls when she spots something she wants, my normal response is, how much do you want to borrow.

"Do you abide by local social norms?"

No, never have, never will, what ever they are anyway.   Don't really pay attention or care what other people think or do.

I see it in Chiang Mai, especially the University areas around Nimmanhaemin. An area you claim to know well and also around the main shopping areas.

Obviously also around the sex/tourist areas but they don't really count.

Not my job. I'm not here to prove anything. I live in Bangkok and see it all the time. Just go to some big malls outside the city center where it's mainly just locals. You'll see it too. Central Ladprao, anywhere really.

Anyway, you are just off. Out of touch. Disconnected. Imagining a Thailand that suits you because you don't know what it's really like. You need a dose of reality for once. Get out. Live a little.

The whole idea is to find a woman that you can relate to, and to find a woman that's worthy of your devotion, and part of that (for me at least) was finding a woman who was willing to live her life outside a box of extreme convention, so we are constantly demonstrating affection to each other in public.

I don't care at all, and she's learned not to care as much about what total strangers think of us.
