7-Eleven No Longer Gives Receipts - What Happened?

There are shops in the US where, at the end of the transaction, the cashier asks if you want a receipt.  If you say 'yes' the thing pops out of the register at the push of a button.

Wow, they ask you if you want a receipt and if you say yes you get one? What happens if you say no - you don't get one?

That sounds like some kind of witchcraft.

There's a reason why the Chearavanont family are the richest in Asia.

go figure ....   !

Because they started from nothing and have grown in to a huge conglomerate with operations in 20 countries across many different industries. Or is it because they are cutting back on tiny paper receipts?

Can you explain?

Getting rid of receipts is a huge cost savings for 7-11, BUT they should give one on request IMHO. I like the no receipt deal because it is very environmentally responsible. The exception is when I make larger purchases I want to make sure I get the discounts and the items were priced correctly. Sometimes I'll try to catch it on the POS digital display but 1 out of 10 times at 7-11 something is messed up. Either the discount or promotion isn't applied or the cashier makes a mistake and scans an item twice.

Keep in mind that:

- CP Thailand holds the 7/11 franchise for Thailand but it doesn't make all the rules.

- The brand owner (company in Japan) makes the rules and regulations, the processes etc.

It's very likely that they have to operate according to Japan commercial laws and regulations and that very probably means they must provide ever customer with some form of paperwork; items, total cost, change, etc.

And that probably means the same details in within the regulations / processes the franchise holder must observe.

Don't kid your self that CP is all powerful and can override he franchise regulations.

and everything they do involves a kickback ... especially in Thailand.   Anyone who thinks they are an honest family & company are dreamers.

some here it seems don't really understand Thailand and what company families do to get around rules and laws.  I'm perplexed that some members think otherwise.      :burp:

"Honesty" is all relative.  There are places in the world where you cannot be honest and succeed.  Greasing palms is an absolute necessity to even stay in business, much less thrive.  I don't know anything about that family.  But I wouldn't propose to hold them to a nanny state standard of honesty.

Has anyone else noticed this? Lately, none of the 7-Eleven stores in my area are giving receipts at all.

No, just come back from my local 7-Eleven with a receipt for my purchases.

The thing is, you cannot back that assertion with anything empirical.

i'm just saying that it's no surprise if receipts were stopped or whatever to circumvent any regulations.  Just say it saves 1000 baht per day across all their stores,  that's   365,000 baht saved per year on paper and ink costs.

The family is rich and they get richer every day,   I noticed my coffee pack small has increased from 44 baht to 55 baht now over 6 months,  and many other items have gone up 20%.     Are they regulated or stupid question in Lieland sorry,  Thailand.

I have no argument with your comment, except to say that the vast majority of comments here on AN are opinions not proven facts.

What utter tripe.

Have you seen the tiny little square of paper the receipts get printed on? What a ridiculous assertion. Dhanin Chearavanont is saving 20-30 baht per day per store (1,000 baht???? Get real) on paper, even though they haven't stopped giving receipts.

Been to two 7-Elevens today and I got receipts in both.

And Dhanin Chearavanont is to blame for the price of your coffee??

So tell me, if they are stopping tiny squares of paper to get richer why did they invest in manufacturing of recycled plastic bags only to give them away for free? No one would complain if they didn't give bags as everyone else stopped (and so did they until they could set up manufacturing). Any idea Mr Business Genius?

And getting in CM in three of them in the last two days!

This thread is nonsense. I have been to several stores over the last few days and got receipts in each of them.

Has any one else apart from the OP been refused a receipt?

It just makes Steven100's conspiracy even more ridiculous.
