Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat recognised eight local heroes for their bravery, kindness, and dedicated service throughout 2024, awarding them certificates of recognition during a ceremony at Phuket Provincial Hall on April 28. This event coincided with the 4th meeting of the Phuket Provincial Committee and Department Heads for 2025.

Governor Sophon commended the awardees for their moral integrity and selflessness, highlighting their exceptional commitment to community service. "This honour recognises people who stepped up without hesitation when others were in danger. Their actions reflect the very best of what it means to be a good citizen," he stated.

The awards are part of an initiative by the Ministry of Interior, marking April 1 as the Day of Honouring Good Citizens. The day aims to spotlight individuals who risk their own safety to help others in critical situations.

Monchai Sae-lao, Director of the Phuket Provincial Ombudsman Centre, explained that these honorees were nominated following the Ministry's Good Citizen Promotion and Welfare Fund regulations, with all nominations receiving approval.

“These locals exemplify morality, ethics and an unshakeable commitment to helping others, without expecting anything in return,” said Monchai.

The honoured heroes and their commendable actions include:

  1. Tharatip Thamrong: A specialist nurse at Chalong Hospital, recognised for assisting victims of motorcycle crashes.
  2. Chulalak Limluecha: A professional nurse from Thalang Hospital, also praised for helping motorcycle crash victims.
  3. Kittithat Maitrijit: A nurse at Vachira Phuket Hospital who revived unconscious foreign passengers mid-flight.
  4. Lieutenant Ratchakon Paenduang: A public health officer who aided motorcycle crash victims and saved a drowning tourist.
  5. Rungnapa Phromphiban: A patient care officer who helped victims of a pickup truck accident.
  6. Sergeant Charuphol Limpisuth: An assistant electrician who provided life-saving aid to a breathless patient at a temple.
  7. Suwannee Sinto: A professional nurse recognised for assisting crash victims. Her certificate was accepted on her behalf.

Governor Sophon encouraged all residents of Phuket to be inspired by these examples of courage and kindness in their daily lives, fostering a community defined by selflessness and compassion.
