monitor with usb connection

Featured Replies

hi there

i am looking for  a screen or monitor, (not sure of the difference)

i want to be able to put  a usb or flashdrive in it to watch videos and to listen to audio podcasts, which i have previously downloaded from the internet

i do not require internet connection, nor bluetooth, nor any facility for games

i would like to have the possibility of attaching better speakers but this is not essential

any help would be appreciated

Sounds like you want a TV 😊

My suggestion to you, if you want to keep the cost down, is Monitor and Android box. A cheap TV will have low resolution with a limited capacity to play media. Android box will be able to play most things.

It sounds like a Smart TV would do the job. I have a TCL 32 inch 4K jobby, USB, internet and Bluetooth, all for about THB 5k.

With the right app you could probably download onto USB stick without your PC.

Bluetooth speakers, headphones or Soundbars are reasonable.

There is no such thing as a 32" 4K TV for 5k. Just...no.

Most likely not even Full HD, but HD 720p.

Cost? A minimum of 1000 baht for an Android box. Examples:

Up to you for the monitor, as you can buy second hand or new, but you'll want one with an HDMI input.

You haven't mentioned portability. If you need that, then of course you should consider a laptop or Tablet.

My 13 year old Dell Monitor had 3 USB ports, present Acer Monitor has 4, both were/are 32"

Both my old TV and present one Panasonic have USB ports

All fine for sound bars and webcam

NO idea about movies on a USB would they play guess format saved in ? is there a built in software [a media player]..  TV most newish ones have a  built media player

Most monitors don't have the ability to play video files from a USB

..hence the recommendation of the additional Android Box.

TCL 32S5400A currently for approx. 4700 BHT @ Lazada. An USB 3.0 drive will work perfectly fine, but it will operate at USB 2.0 speed (slower transfer rate). This doesn’t affect video/audio playback as long as the file isn’t extremely large or high-bitrate. Finding a 32-inch TV with a USB 3.0 port in Thailand can be challenging, as most models in this size range typically come equipped with USB 2.0 ports. If you really need an USB 3.0 port then not only price doubles but also the screen size will be larger, for example the Hisense 43A6K – 43" 4K Ultra HD Smart TV for 8.190 BHT.

Or the OP can opt for a TV instead of a dedicated monitor.  That's what I'm typing this on.  It's a 40" Full HD, probably 10 years old, and cost less than a dedicated monitor 2 sizes down.  It's got the video playing capabilities baked into the sauce.  No box required.  Just plug in a USB chip with video files on it.  This particular TCL has 3 HDMI inputs and several USB inputs.

I would note that my dedicated monitors only have passthrough USB ports.  They don't play videos.  They just allow me to plug into a PC USB port and run more than one USB device on the PC.  The only reason I bought them is because they came with the cheap 2nd hand servers I bought.  Of course, YMMV depending on the brand and vintage.

Impulse...the suggestion was in the very first reply, in the very first sentence in reply to the OP. 😊

TV was the first suggestion, but also included the monitor option, since that was what was asked.

If they wanted to keep the cost down for example, with a smaller second hand monitor with a DVI/HDMI input. 2000 baht total possible. But if their budget stretches to 4.7k, @jacnl2000's suggestion should suffice.

just buy used.  here in japan they have these places called recycle shops.  another word for second hand shop.  I purchased a used 21 inch tv that had 720p HD.  good enough for me to use for playing computer games and watching netflix.  tv had hdmi connection.  hooked up with my mini pc.  works like a charm.  cost of the used 21 inch tv... 20 dollars.
