Got it thanks, but it had to be in the bank account for 8 weeks before application?

Funds (800k) must be seasoned for 2 months.

You entered on a Non O.

That provides 90 day permission of stay.

In the last 30 days apply for 12 month extension

Just read up on the other required docs for extension.

Such as bank letter etc.

Which immigration office for extension?

Final note, as you may have read Wise has restricted the banks it will/can send to.  Although Krungsri is listed on their list of possible banks there is another thread running on here where people are getting transfers rejected to banks on that list.  I would highly recommend you make a trial transfer as soon as possible to ensure that you can actually use Wise if you choose to do so for the extension money.

Sorry to read that you need to transfer those funds now, as IMO the baht is much too strong at the moment.

A month or two later, should be more favourable for foreign transfers to Thailand (fingers crossed).

Nothing to do with thread.

The OP has zero option of when to transfer.

He is applying for 12 month extension.

Thanks, I'll do a dummy run on the barclays Web site, to get the final cost difference. The first time i looked it was about £400 difference

I use Barclays online banking to send money from my account to Kasikorn Thai bank account. Always send sterling and let Kasikorn do the conversion.

Barclays have zero charge for my online transfer (not sure if that is because I have Premier Banking?). Kasikorn take (I believe) 300 baht their end for the transfer. For amounts of a few thousand £ I find very little in difference in the amounts received between using Barclays and Wise due to Barclays not charging me. Wise probably just edge it though.

Unless you move you will be dealing with CW.

They have appointment option which is useful.

Also most banks (apart from SCB) along with print/photocopy joints on same level.

You need to (at a minimum) provide CW with a TM30 to show address.

A lease would be a bonus.

Here is link for appointment.

Don't think about letting Barclays send THB.  If you use them fine, but send GBP.  It will still costs you more than Wise but not so much.

ok I understand, I see the option to send and receive in GBP on Barclays. But it's hard to know the final cost.

The transfer option can be changed in the future.

For now concentrate on the application for the 12 month extension.

Many threads on this. Here is one for CW.

That's a very useful thread, thanks. But shouldn't I make sure the 2-month clock has started for having the 800k in the account first?

Of course.

As stated. After entry with a Non O the first step is to open Thai bank account if do not have one

Step 2 immediately transfer 800k

The thread I posted may have been ongoing extension and not first extension.

NatWest charge nothing for SWIFT transfer via app if you accept 3/4 days transfer time. I recently did this and money received in 2 days. GBP15 for next day transfer. Maximum GBP10k per transfer so 2 required. Always transfer sterling and let Thai bank exchange on receipt.

There have been a few changes with Wise transfers to Thailand in the last couple of weeks, some banks excluded (possibly temporarily) and the lower limit to others amended.

Suggest we all keep checking our local version of the HELP page.

PS. I've sent 2m THB to Bangkok Bank many times, never any hold up or queries at either end, I'm in the UK.

This doesn't answer your question. After transferring the money to the satisfaction of Immigration, you might like to change banks. Krungsri Bank is rather old-fashioned and basic. My wife and I used to have an account there. I felt like I was going back in time when I needed to use their service.

It's not necessary to prove the money came from overseas for extending retirement visas sobits ok to use Wise in 1 or more transfers. That's only when u want to buy property.

Be sure it best to have it in the bank 2 calendar months before extension rather than 8 weeks which is more of a western concept of 2 months.

Sending over USD 10K (or equivalent) has been an automatic flag for decades (yep, not inflation-adjusted).

Wise recently advised me that the amount where a transaction is flagged and liable to scrutiny is $20,000US. Recently - as in March when I sent well over $10K US and had no problems. The transfer took seconds as it does for my usual smaller monthly transfers.

Hi all, I'm currently in Bangkok on my first week on a Non O Visa from the UK. I need to transfer the 800,000 Baht, so that I can apply for the 1 year extension. I have setup a bank account at Krungsri Bank in Bangkok Phrom Phong. Can I send the 800K Baht using Wise ? I know that maximum that can be transferred is 500K each time, so I would need to do 2 x transfers.
Will the Immigration office be ok with a transfer from Wise for the 1 year extension ? I could use Barclays Swift payment, but would be much more expensive.
thanks!

Bangkok Bank is Better. TBH. It's much smoother than Krungsri.  I'm in both. Ive been using the "yellow bank" for years with no problem.

And I transfer ~120k (baht) each month using WISE and takes 5 seconds (from Oz to Thailand)

A year ago I was using Wise and it took only  seconds for my money to be in my Thai bank account from the USA
Yesterday I just set up a new transfer again and they’re saying it will take six days

same sending bank same receiving bank

Unacceptable

Will be looking for a different transfer company

PS.  When I ask wise why it has changed from seconds to six days I don’t get a satisfactory answer.  Only a vague answer.

I won't think they would look at how the money got there, only that it was there.

I had a similar except on contacted Wise and they referred me to their partner bank in Thailand and the problem (last mile out of Wise's control).  However, a couple days later the money showed up and I have not had the same problem since.
